This was very helpful, thank you!!! Though my buddy is playing Custodes so I'm not sure how often I could use a fancy pile in/consolidate move against them (or would want to!) 🤣

Glad it helped! Still quite a bit you can do with Pile in / Consolidation moves against those custodes fortresses. They suffer on point control, and you can make sure that your movement on the board can lock them off of points. charging in with sacrificial models can often times prevent them from getting onto points and shooting, so something to consider!

@strategic advantage I love these videos! Super informative and immensely helpful. I have a question regarding fighting and weapons.
Scenario 1: I have a chainsword and powersword. If I choose to fight with the powersword, do I still get the extra attack from the chainsword?
Scenario 2: I have a power sword and a chain axe. Do I get the +1 S from the axe and the -3 AP from the sword, or is it one or the other?

Hey and welcome! We’re glad you are enjoying them!
To answer your Q’s, a brief overview. Your model has a set number of attacks on their main stats, let’s say for example 2. You can allocate any number of attacks for each melee weapon equipped up to that number. However,
      1) if you make at least 1 attack with the chainsword you bump the attacks characteristic up by 1. So from 2 to 3. You can do all 3 attacks with the chainsword or just the one, and the other two with the power sword. In most scenarios it’s just used as a “bonus free attack”. If you have a model that can equip two chainsword a you attack with both and each give an individual +1, so you’d go from 2+1+1 or 4 total attacks!
      2) you use the full stat line of the weapon, no mixing and matching unfortunately!
      Hope that clears it up!

Even with the repeat, I had to go back and listen to the slingshot again. That is some pretty sweet tech. I definitely will try to remember that for when I can get a game in.
    Thanks for the awesome video!

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, pile in / consolidate moves are some of the most deceptively complex parts of the game. On paper it seems simple but once you crack that nut, oh boy! Let us know if you figure out anything else we hadn’t mentioned in your games to come! Stay safe!

I used to use these tricks when playing as Grey Knights to tear through multiple enemies as the Psybolt has a habit of making the closest model disappear, so it was important to charge multiple models and try to stay in melee as much as possible so that you can dance from one target to the next without facing overwatch. The look on opponents faces as the realisation dawned was always salty and priceless XD. Even if they did manage to keep me out of combat in a particular turn, they'd have to face those storm bolters at close range, usually with an incinerator not far behind for support. I could never "relax" as Grey Knights until my guys were into melee, that was my comfort zone.

Nicely done! The pile in and consolidate moves are some of the best rules in the game IMO

Hey guys thanks for the informative video. I am pretty new to 40k and kill team. I have a few questions:
    1. Is consolidate and pile in only after you charge?
    2. When moving a model let's say with a movement of 8 and an enemy is 7 away, can you move right into combat without overwatch or do you have to charge to lock into combat?
Thank you an advance for your time.

      Happy you found us!
      1) pile in and consolidate are moves in the fight phase. If you satisfy eligibility to fight (successfully charged, were successfully charged, or are within 1” of an enemy model) you can be activated to fight. This means you start the fight sequence which includes pile in and consolidate.
      2) you cannot move into combat. In the movement phase you must charge a model to come within 1” of it. The only way to avoid overwatch is to charge a model already in combat, be out of line-of-sight or out of range of the enemy model. You can enter combat in other ways like if you fail a falling test and land within 1” of an enemy, but that is such a niche example. One neat way to enter into combat is in the Arena format, where you can open a door and “end up” in 1” with an enemy but that is unique to that game format and not a core rule of the game.
      We hope this helps!

    question:
i charged 2 models. Can I pile in and end up OUT of the range of the first one if I move closer to the closest model?

    • @StrategicAdvantage
      @StrategicAdvantage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yep. But since that enemy model _was charged_ even if you get out of melee range it is still able to pile in towards you and likely get back into range. With a pile in _and_ consolidate you may be able to get >4” away from a model so that they cannot pile in and fight you but that is not a common scenario to be in
