It wasn't in the game at launch. It came with the first changes to core stats like 8 months later. I've not previously used it for more than a few minutes a handful of times. Reasons being the locked in 3rd attribute of crit chance and the lack of scope and up front damage. With the recent changes I've been using it on my 3 blue strikers pfe countdown build and yeah, it's good. I don't know how much I'll use it in open world because it's not very good at range
I saw an incredibly talented player, Navy Rain, get a 13-ish minute solo legendary Capitol clear with a heavily armored striker with memento and chameleon. Yes, his chameleon was proficiency 25, but he was hitting INSANE crit numbers, considering how much armor cores he had. The chameleon seems insane in general, now, which feels fantastic.
I do think the strikers/memento/chameleon is arguably the best way of doing it. But if you’re doing legendary content you want to be pre stacked to allow you to go in full guns blazing
I LOVE the Chameleon! Made a few builds with it the past year and a few since the buff. Im just very bad with it :D I have awful awareness and get myself killed if i try to play into the tempo of Chameleon. But that's on me, the weapon is great. What i love now is a Capacitor build with 5 red and 4 yellow (Picaro's), it hits surprisingly hard, and more importantly, it fits my playstyle :)
Rest in paradise to my brother Rell, he been on the chameleon for years. Miss making builds with him and the clan in the DZ. He would've called and told me to watch 😆
I've always loved my Chameleon Its just a fun gun, I've out gunned a lot of people with it. It also works great in Paladin/Bruiser builds so you hit like a truck and feel like a tank its great. (uptime has really never been an issue but TBH I've used this gun a lot so I have a lot of practice and experience.
Always loved the Chameleon always said it jist needed a slight tap to its damage ajd it would be a great up there in a great use case and a fun mini game to get multiple stacks
This shouldn't come as a surprise. From the PTR we knew that Chameleon, Chatterbox and Bighorn were going to be OP because the devs only seem to have looked at the Weapon Damage and not the Talents.
Does anybody know of a similar or substitute alternative for the chest piece, as I don't seem to have that particular brand set. Also it's not appearing in the crafting station either, which was my original solution to the problem. Thanks for any and all ideas or suggestions!!
Famas has pretty much always been the go to comparison. It was the Best In Slot AR for like 3 + Years. We should all know how good it is. The Comparison here is more just for ease, rather than anything else. F2000 is still REALLY STRONG. Just not quite as much as it was Pre Tu22.
We have been getting pretty good results above this. Nothing compared to some of the longer Range AR's, but a massive improvement over what Chameleon was doing.
@@DodRegnbue right now I'm using it on a watch alt in random bs gear, it has dttoc on it, but yeah the gun is carrying hard on the weird crap I pick up. Because Strega's talent is an on kill thing it isn't ideal for group content.
Forgive my profound ignorance but if you're shooting something outside of the effective range does it hit for lower damage, any penalty? Or can you just not "shoot it"?
My problem with the Chameleon is the short range. So i put Visionario on for 120% range. And because of that I need the 30% precision from Foxes Overlord. Rest Striker. Downside is I have to use the Ninja Backpack. Performs really well especially on the big ones. Over a million with 1035 rpm - with whether the 200 Striker buffs or the Chameleon buffs or both. Two blue one yellow - so a tier 3 shield.
Why would you do that? It's just a waste of space for a powerful talent. If I carry the Chameleon and want range power, I just switch to my MK16 that without a range weapon mod, already outperforms an Elmo's Fire, and with the range weapon mod it gets even better. On top of that, that 120% range boost doesn't compensate for the poor stability and accuracy of the Chameleon at range as the result of running at 900rpm, tons of bullets will never hit the target!! For an MK16 (or CTAR-21, ACR-E, and Carbine 7 for example) it's hardly a problem, it can take down snipers on the other side of the map with ease.
@@HEF-l5d that's pretty decent. I've tried loads of variations, ninjabag, even running around with hunters fury with no hazpro. Been loving Backfire. If only seasonal modifiers weren't so annoying!
@@DodRegnbueI put on this chameleon build and compared it to the backfire nbbp 3pc striker, 1 cavalier, 1 ceska (obliterate) 100% hzd build. They reach the same top end DMG numbers for me. In the heat of the battle you're not going to reload your weapon after every kill, because in a lot of case you might used only part of your magazine, when someone else was hitting the same enemy. On top of that, you also ignore the fact that elmo's fore comes with 15% crit chance and 15% crit damage by default, plus it has a much higher accuracy than a Chameleon, making head shots way easier, and if you combine that with flatline, you can do substantial damage. On top of that, it has good range, accuracy and stability (great for hitting heads, getting rid of snipers and turrets or hitting deadly hit points on name enemies, something that chameleon is lacking, plus it has it power available ALL the time, while this is not always the case with the chameleon, without the stacks it's on of the worst performing assault rifles out there. I’ve got Strega and it works really well however the low ammo count hurts it and it’s slower rate of fire isn’t the best but yes from what I’ve been testing it needs 5 stacks but you don’t have that very often
He knows it's an amp buff, he can read.. He was uncertain whether or not the stacks amplify with themselves. They do not. They stack "15% per enemy" - i.e. max damage you get is 75% at 5 stacks. And that "burst damage" you got in the range is not "actual" burst damage of the gun, but max damage of the talent when proc'd. Not much uptime..
Love your vids. Have you tried the P90 with the 50% optimal range mod? It basically makes it better than an AR. My clan boss told me about it and I haven't used anything else since. Shoutout to my guy cos he does the math for everything at th-cam.com/video/VZTQI-mpquk/w-d-xo.html

For me, I'd still say the Strega or the SE are best in slot. I wish they would've made chameleon what it always should've been as an SMG. I don't think it would be the chatterbox in it's current iteration, but i think it would've been more viable.
No, they're not, Elmo's Fire is #1, great power, great accuracy, large magazine, high rpm and 15% crit damage and 15% crit chance by default, in the right build it makes that Strega of yours look like a joke. It's also very conditional damage, it has requirements like tagging, hitting tags, and with benefits that are limited to 20 meter. In countdown you will also have other players killing your tagged enemies, making things even worse for you. Crap weapon... don't use it, thank me later.

Regardless of the Chameleons recent buff, it was and is my favourite weapon since TD2 came out. GGs

Eagle Bearer sucks, Elmo's Fire and Chameleon are the new Kings after the last update.
I loved the chameleon and vector with negotiators, now that they are both buffed (dark winter), it's time to bring it back.
you should try backfire with striker chest and backpack build in incursion, you will be surprised. Used to do close to 1.8m damage to the flame dudes
What's the meta SMG? I heard it's Dark Winter but does it suffer from inconsistent up-time?
I made this build as soon as update came out. It’s my goto for countdown or grind.
I have a grupo chest with the same rolls on, could I use that instead and change the mods about?
My issue with Chameleon was always that without activating the talent, it kinda sucked. But with the base damage buff it's gg!
For chameleon should the attribute still be DMG to targets out of cover?
