We now have a course on ImageJ available for free on our website. The course was made by Matt Megill as part of his Master's Degree, please check it out and let us know what you think!

I appreciate that! I need to do an updated version, this one is a bit dated now. I made another one here that you may find helpful: th-cam.com/video/J9bruRU1X_g/w-d-xo.html
All the best with the work you are doing!

Thanks for the information Chad. Regarding the problem of using "freehand selection", you ca use "polygon selection" so that when you get an unwanted line you can put the next line on top of the correct one so you don't have to repeat everything. I hope I have explained well. Thanks again Chad.

Thanks for that tip! I actually need to remake this video, I have used imageJ a lot more now and have a few new tricks to share.

Hi Im 4th year college student and I just want to ask how can I put in ANOVA the result of image j. Because all I need is the length and width of the coral for my growth rate is it okay to not put the area to angle? I don't know the formula😔

Hello. Yes, you can use measurements of length rather than area. We usually do max length and then another line that is perpendicular, to measure max width. For round corals, you can also think of this as the area of a circle, and measure the mean diameter. You can then enter these into excel or another spreadsheet.
I hope that helps. you might also check out this video for more info on linear extension.

Chad have you taken these photographs beforehand at different intervals? i need to do this for plant foliage. I do not have access to the plant just google photo. How do I measure growth in summer months?

Yeah, the photos are taken over a series of dates, so that we can compare growth over time. You would need to have photos from several days, so you can measure each one and calculate the difference. Good luck, if you have specific questions you can email me at info@conservationdiver.com
