One of the best times of my live was the magic of going to the Wad's house after school for drum lessons. Thirty five years later and I still talk about him. The best :-)
@Brian McCarthy Funny how the wheel turns. John used to come to my dad for lessons when he was a teenager. Then years later he paid it forward to the next generation.
There's Irish jazz royalty on one small stage. Brings back great memories of the amazing parties the flautist John Curran used to throw at his home back in the day.
I did that as well Brian - 50p he used to charge, and not only the lessons but the stories and the yarns about the jazz greats. "Buddy Rich, Louis Bellson - one's a nice man , ones' a boll***" A truly wonderful man, drummer and all-round good guy.
Well, the ride does sound perfect for that style . It cuts through enough to establish a drive in the swung pulse, it's tone bright enough yet dark enough too. by the way, guitarist killing it here! Snare sound? Short, snappy and not bad. So if I disagree with someone here sorry but the drum sound here for me is a neo philiy joe jones with all the quality but a hint of modernity (then, time of this recording). I think a nice sound but true a little dated now with it's quite 70s tonality but within this recorded context an inoffensive and better still appropriate tuning and sound choice which still sounds pleasant within its recorded backdrop today

This is just great! and great to see the Wad showing his mastery of the music and dynamics...as he always did! A Legend of the music.

All I need now is a video of Mick from the Music Inn in the Dandelion and my late adolescence is complete
