I didn't even know you could enter the cab of anything other than the lead unit. I've always just used the engineer view on default RailDriver setup. Time to dig through the key bindings

How do you swap cabs like that? What is the binding?

There is a keybind called "ChangeControlRV". If you hit that key or Raildriver button while in the cab of a locomotive, it'll make it the lead locomotive
