    Jim Baird Adventurer: Yukon Backcountry - A 400km Snowmobile Trip into the Headwaters of the Wind River & More. Wilderness mountains, ice fishing for Lake Trout, Wood Bison hunt, winter camping, and Alaska Highway overlanding….I’ve packed a lot into this video!
    It starts in the early morning at -38 degrees Celsius. My buddy and I are managing deep snow as we ride into an impressive double sun halo. After stopping near an outfitter’s cabin, we have a mug-up and then start to ride on the wild and remote Wind River. Cutting through the bush again we make it into a headwater of the wind and begin ice fishing for Lake Trout. We catch several but need to get going so we ride out of there, headed for the previous night’s campsite.
    After that, we go on a Wood Bison hunt and get one on day seven of an eight-day hunt! Finally, it’s time to go home after spending over a month in the Yukon. We load the trailer and hit the Alaska Highway. Once we get to the Great Planes, there’s little snow and we move across the country with relit ice ease, camping on Lake Superior before the final push home. What an adventure!

      The sun halo an rainbow. Dogs teasing bison. The whole video was beautiful! I used to watch one of my dogs chase my 2 horses all the time when I was a kid. It's very entertaining and scary at the same time. Nice fishing hole too. Thanks

      Opening shots were beautiful but I enjoyed seeing the canvas basecamp. We camp in a 5M bell tent and plan to use that for longer stay areas on our Yukon/AK trip in a few more years.

    the bison along the road may be licking up the salt on the roads if they use salt up there.

    • @JimBairdAdventurer
      @JimBairdAdventurer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, and they’re protected which means they’re not hunted in this specific area. It’s because of this and that salt that they’re so plentiful along the highway in winter

    Lmao! I did the hand auger many times and never went as deep as you! I know what you were feeling! And my father left me a all metal ice scoop! But the ice freezes on it. That's why they went to plastic..~~~

      I see, ya the ice was pretty thick but that plastic scoop snapped with the extreme cold

      It doesn’t get dark in summer so you can’t see the aurora. Your best bet is fall and winter

    So you didn't show sleeping arrangements? And how can you go 500 miles round trip without refueling? Just curious?

      We haul gas in jerrycans in the skimmers. I’ve done an 800 mile snowmobile expedition in the western Arctic on another occasion. Didn’t film much in the tent and had so much to share in this video I left it out
