Torre del Mar is a town on the Malaga coast, located in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga, located in the Axarquía region, in the province of Málaga, in the autonomous community of Andalusia,
Spain. In 2021 it had 22,819 registered inhabitants. It borders the towns of Almayate and Caleta de Vélez. Limited by the channels of the Río Vélez and Río Seco.
The name Torre del Mar comes from a watchtower built for defensive purposes in the 10th or 11th century, during the Muslim occupation, the Torre de la Mar de Vélez, castle and customs office of the city of Vélez-Målaga.
Located along the entire coast and limited by the Vélez River, Torre del Mar, dates back to the Phoenician era. Its ideal environment, sea, and mountains, make it have a unique location and climate.
One of the main festivities is the celebration of the Night of San Juan. The Torre del Mar festivities are very well known. Throughout the year, there are several festivities that take place in this town and throughout Axarquía, with great importance at the national level.
Intercity buses connect Torre del Mar with the cities of Malaga and Nerja. The following lines of the Málaga Area Metropolitan Transport Consortium have stops in its territory.
