Hi Wil. I know this is a late comment but I would like to add my 2 Cents worth to this build advisory. I would urge anyone buying this boat to NOT GLUE ANYTHING. Main reasons being that if a single part breaks (Stem mast shaft of the main sail mast shaft construction) then they cannot be separated from the larger parts and refitting a small broken part would require replacing the whole mast. Also, the manual neither recommends using any glues (check page 1 where it states what is required to finish this model). I agree that the boat can take on a bit of water from deck screws etc BUT a little waterproof grease will seal those screws off and remove the issue without gluing the screws to the deck. As I said, this is just my opinion and as of 2016, without epoxy or superglue I have had no issues (apart from leaks that were resolved with waterproof grease). Thank you for your excellent videos and tutorials. If you make a complaint to Joysway and they find out the model has been glued together then the are likely (and have) to say "Warranty invalid"
Yes it was, even one of the designers ( TH-cam videos) recommended gluing the components. I'm not criticizing the idea, just trying to point out that it may not be the most practical choice for a starter. Thank you again for the time and effort you have put into your build and sailing vids, they are very much appreciated :)
good suggestions to be honest.. I made a mistake gluing my mast together and forgot to include the jib attachment... oh well. I have all 3 sail sets, so traveling is easier when nothing falls apart. just dont break anything.. :D
I just put wraps of scotch tape around my joiners to get a friction ''snug'' fit, & that seems to work just fine. Only glue I use, is for the ends of the lines... On my little V2 Orion, the manual doesn't show gluing any mast parts at all.
FYI, you don't need to register your product for a warranty. There are federal regulations that do not require that. You will still get the same warranty anyone else gets as long as you have proof of purchase from an authorized seller.
thank you for sharing, just found your video. I race IOM but got a DF65 to get my son started in RC sailing. I actually did what you recommend there but not using acrylic glue, rather I used 5 min epoxy which works the same I think. Your Brunel boat looks fantastic are you gonna cover how you did the deco in other part? also my next step is to replace thoese shabby sails but not sure whether I take the shape from these or change the luff shape since we can only get one panel. Anyway thank you for sharing.
glouisfr Thanks for the comments. I like modelling my boats after "racy" vessels... just makes things more interesting (and easier to day dream when behind in a race). I will cover the painting and deco part soon. As far as sails, shaped sails are not allowed in the DF65 class and the boat would need 7+ knot winds to make a go of the RG65's ... did you see my review of FAST Sails? (th-cam.com/video/-uNv_dfoI9Q/w-d-xo.html) This is a small sail maker out of Kelowna, BC Canada. I'm really liking them and they do power up nice! Stay tuned, I'll have more build videos... and hopefully get some action video in too.

Hi glouisfr ... here is the rule on the DF65 class regarding shaping the single panel sail: H.2 Construction Construction shall be a soft sail of a single ply. The Jib and Mainsail of any given rig size shall be constructed from the same ply. All sails shall be constructed of a single panel with no seams and the maker shall not try to introduce camber (shape) into the sail by means of heat or force. The sails shall be attached to the rigging and spars by means of a single hole positioned within 10mm of each sail corner point (points A, C & E Jib, A, G & L Mainsail) and three other suitable positions along the mainsail luff. Metal eyelets may be used to reinforce these holes.
Hi Kelly, yes - the V6 won't need to have the eyelets and backstay hook glued. If they are loose, then do it. For the rigging, glue is not required at the mast base and head. Please follow the instructions in the V6 manual, it is well done and has all you need to do for a class legal boat :)
Hi will been watching your videos for a while now and picked up a DF65 RG just received my new mast kit A as the old one had a split in the main part and I’ve followed your video and stuck it together with gorilla glue when I noticed on the bottle it says dampen serface which I didn’t do will it matter it’s all setting now tapped up

Please can you explain why it is necessary to reinforce the eyelets with Gorilla Glue (or epoxy or whatever). What is wrong with them as they are?
its not ... if they don't move, no need to add glue. The new kits don't need this done.
Is there anything different with the build process for the V6? Patiently waiting for my DF65 to arrive so I can start the build

Hi, should be OK, I've used the gorilla glue without water dampening throughout the build :)
