Thanks.. I pulled mine out after a long day of being stranded all over town. And the regulator looks super bad. Cool.. hopefully that fixes the problem. I did here if the battery light on the dashboard doesn’t work then your alternator won’t work either. Have you ever come across that?
I'm sure it will! Yes the battery light is the exciter for the alt to start charging. That being said, even with a bad bulb most of the time a Rev to about the 3k mark will start it charging as it will self excite.
@@FLG13 Later e30s had a resistor in series with the bulb so that even if the bulb was open circuit, it would start to charge. I forget what year this was added.

what about reman alternators by Bosch? I'm assuming the quality should be decent although some say its po-po

I have a 87 325i Vert my part# starts the same but the last 3 numbers are different. 1197 311 005
