A couple of hints from an Aussie. Go back and look at what Bob Simpson and Alan Border did to turn Australia around out of the bad old days of the mid 1980's into world beaters. Created a dynasty that essentially lasted until today. And that hard training and ruthless commitment has lasted also in approach to today. That same approach has been migrated to the Australian women's team. And again the results have followed. Train hard and then harder. Made fielding a point of pride. At the start of the day and the end of the day. Fitter players can concentrate for longer. And then make sure your domestic cricket is made and played as hard as possible. Australian cricket (all Australian cricket) from children to adults is hard and competitive. Competition and pressure is the norm at all levels. If England want to start matching Australia, all of the above must be implemented, plus more.Made fielding a point of pride.
Well said, Bob Simpson lead by example, outstanding catcher and gutsy batter. AB was the same, demanded 100 per cent
@@gerardferrara4387beg to differ. AB gave 200% and demanded 150%. That is why the Aussies became a dynasty
Michael Whitney in an interview in 2024 said that Bob Simpson was an absolute slave-driver on fielding practice. He made the AUS-M team field in the rain. He got the AUS-M team to run 15 kms then field in the middle of a hot day. Bob Simpson was absolutely ruthless. That said, he was preparing the AUS-M team for those guelling 5 day Tests when the team fields for two days. He got results.
Justin Langer attempted to emulate the tough task master approach & the senior players with CA's Nick Hokley knived Langer in the back. Cricketers both Men's & Women's teams, the senior players albiet are susceptible to soft tissue injuries but can be "prima donas" because of their lucrative side-hustles of playing in franchise tournaments. So the landscape & cultrues have changed. Coaches have discovered if you push senior players too hard on fitness & fielding, the coach could lose their job OR the senior player will retire & hope to earn their income purely from franchise tournaments.
English, hockey women, netballers etc are fit and athletic. Some of the cricket girls looked like darts players.
😂😂😂😂
Two words: Johnny Bairstow.
Double standards targeting women’s weight and body image. The focus on female bodies is typical of our misogynistic society. Still work to be done for equality and women in cricket / sport.
@@katsprayrubbish, they are clearly just having a jolly and are completely unprofessional. Part of that is being a bit porky.
@katspray Johnny isn't in any English side. Cornwall, Khan are better examples. They are also not in any international side. South African woman's team exed their captain because of her weight. This English womans team need to do better. There is no excuses. What ever you said ain't it and stop blaming men for your problems.
I think the weight is more of an issue where players have.are gaining weight whilst being elite athletes. As a fan, I find it disrespectful. I know a woman’s body is different, but Olympic sprinters have babies and return to full fitness? It’s just not professional 🤷🏻♂️
Congratulatiuons Henry Moeran for having the courage to ask the tough questions.
BBC guidelines apply though.
@@bananabrooks3836 This is the courage of bad hairdo's and lost puppies. . . How many modern management meetings play this out everyday, with the same excuses?
Why didn’t the English captain (who I admire as a player) take the opportunity to begin setting a new culture for the team by being bluntly honest about the team’s performance at the end of the series instead of offering various half excuses and praising the talent in the team. Would that not have shown the willingness to critically and fearlessly sum up the performance of the team as a whole and demonstrate real leadership in the toughest of times. When do you, as a leader, take a stand to begin change if not then? Does she think the culture is just fine as is?
Clare Connor is delusional in describing the Australian team as “good “ and the England bowling team as “very good “. Any Australian State team would probably beat England, especially Victoria
'Dean had a good series'
I’m sorry but unfit, disinterested and totally lacking in skill is disrespectful of the England fans. Maybe Clare needs to stop making excuses and looks for another job.
"looks for another job." maybe so but you clearly don't know basic english grammar and are clearly uneducated. Clearly inbred lol
@ oh I’ve just looked at your page and your replies. Clearly a keyboard warrior. Do you give yourself a little pull while typing out your uneducated shit.
"Hullo... this is Henry and I just can't go on. I'm sorry. It's just been too much ..."
A few practical point::
1. The ball generally comes through more quickly off Australian wickets than wickets in England. Close catchers have less time to sight the ball. The English team fell short in this department, and one can only say they needed more practice.
2. A number of the English players were obviously below the fitness standard of their opponents. This should have been addressed before the series began.
3. Australia played at a faster pace than England, which contributed to the building of pressure. The English players did not counter this and often looked 'under the gun'.
If there was a prize for coming g second in cricket…
England would drop it.
Nothing to do with innate fitness levels. They could catch a few years ago. Now they couldn’t catch a cold.
A few of them looked like they had spent the last few years in the buffet queue, not in the nets.
And yes. We do criticise men with exactly the same rhetoric. Ask Ian Blackwell or Samit Patel.
😅😅
HK is kidding only herself. Fact is, She’s been in the skippers job too long. Time to resign and move on. Her dummy spit when the game was called off for rain in Canberra was nothing short of a childish tantrum. And most unbecoming to ignore the umpires after the game was called. She gambled big to go off the ground when it suited the result England’s way, and then lost the plot when it suddenly did not. If you don’t like the pre agreed playing conditions then don’t play. Most of her team clearly looked like they didn’t want to be in Australia after a few games and were eyeing off the soonest flight home. 16/0 flogging is in the book.
She did admit later it was the right decision. Human display of frustration understandable.
Men have started watching woman's cricket, so now the woman's game is under a microscope. Woman also started earning the same as men. So the scrutiny is well placed. They can't get the same if they play below average by the woman's standards. Australia is the bench mark for the game so everyone should be held by the same accord
Poms scarred for another generation. Mission accomplished.
Gee , some very cruel questions, whether anything will come of it remains to be seen. The Aussies are particularly strong on failure, they don’t tolerate it at all. This across all sports. As in Australian rules football, if you don’t make the finals for three seasons the coach is usually gone for the fourth season.
"if you don’t make the finals for three seasons the coach is usually gone for the fourth season" - lol goofball thats crap, don't talk shit. 100% untrue. I can name 10 examples over the last decade.
@ go on then
In the England team there is…
A Test double centurion in Beaumont,
Bouchier who recently got a ton on Test debut,
NSB amongst the best all rounders in the world,
One of the worlds best keepers in Jones who has often rescued the team with the bat,
DWH who on her day can dominate the bowling,
SE ranked the best white ball bowler in the world.
But none of that was apparent in this series against quality opposition.
A stern response by Clare of , that will not happen again, when asked about Ecclestone refusing to do the Hartley interview.
Seems Ecclestone got into hot water over that.
If the England players could catch a ball, they would be better! There is no excuse for the dropped catches or poor fielding. How many more runs did Australia get from dropped catches and poor fielding?
As a group, if they can't dismiss the opposition twice then they have no chance of winning Test matches. Fielding and catching is one aspect. But the failures in this series were manifest. Management and coaching also needs to be re-examined in light of what everyone has seen.
There have to be some brutal decisions made.
In a player for player match-up only the quicks face up well. Id expect the aussies would take Filer over Brown. Ecclestone acquitted herself, on the pitch, and Jones remains decent behind the stumps, but all other respects, the rest were below par, and some much worse than that.
Technique needs work. Fitness definitely needs work. Tactical awareness..non existent. Mental attitude …… sloppy. Back to basics needed. Sometimes you can’t rebuild a house if it’s falling down. Sometimes you need to clear the rubble and start again.
Like most things in English women’s cricket they set themselves very low personal standards and consistently fail to achieve them. Culling out senior management and in particular the woman you interviewed would be a great start
Some of this hand-wringing is related to over inflated expectations. Prior to the series there was a possibility that England could win maybe 10 points, but a more realistic expectation was 4-6 points. And there were chances for that to happen. However, early on this was lost. Then the downward spiral began. And focus shifted to the failings. Pressure took over. Its not as bad as it seems, but, work is needed, and change is likely in the next 12 months.
England have to work very hard and be very hungry, there is no mongrel in the team, if you want to be number one you must be prepared to sacrifice many things to achieve it, no one gives you top spot, you have to want it, earn it and work hard to keep it.
No discussion on what happened at the U19 Women World Cup in Malaysia where India thrashed England by 9 wickets in the SF and went on to win the tournament by thrashing South Africa by 9 wickets in the final.
These U 19 girls are supposed to be the future of their Women senior team but looks like the England team are far behind compared to other teams.
England u19s looked like winning the game at 10 overs. But the batting depth vs spin wasn't there. Same issues. A but over aggressive maybe. There were a few other softer issues around the tournament arrangements that favoured the opposition. That said, this squad were not as good as the prior squad.
India were fabulous especially in batting and Eng lost their heads against spin pressure, sound familiar?
Agreed Bbc coverage poor.
Let’s face it, the Aussie ladies would all have been knighted by now if our gov handed out accolade’s & rewards like sweets as in the UK. England are good at heaping rewards but suck at getting out the knife and cutting out the dead wood.
If 10 years of a strong Aussie domestic competition is the problem for England then that’s Claire’s fault isn’t it, doesn’t the buck stop with her and the ECB? I’m sorry but comments on TMS have contributed to the nonsense, English batters are the best, best spin bowler, etc etc. stop just stop with this nonsense the stats don’t transfer to play on the pitch. Gideon was right. The English squandered the opportunity to grow women’s cricket, a competitive team could have drawn a huge crowd at the MCG. A record crowd for a one sided test.
I’m not sure but there must have been 20 lost opportunities in the test match alone. Just the basics, run between the bloody wickets, keep the board ticking over. The Aussies fell short at the T20 WC and the group got together and reviewed and set new goals. The group not Cricket Australia. The players took responsibility. The Aussie fans clearly saw the players disappointed and the knives didn’t come out because it was viewed as a blimp, we trusted it wouldn’t happen again. It didn’t.
I’m so disappointed, I love cricket, solid competition is required at international level but for England not give a yelp is beyond annoying.
Yes. From the POV of furthering women's cricket this series was a horrifically botched opportunity. Through hard work and long term investment by Cricket Australia women's cricket is absolutely thriving at all levels here, including huge fan support. Seriously if the series had arrived at the MCG having been close then you could have probably filled that 100,000 capacity stadium. Instead I'm another Australian fan who soon lost interest in the series because the poms were consistently DISMAL - who pays to watch that?
The cure is in the hands of the ECB - some serious and long term investment. But even then it will take a good decade to recover fully.
One minute Australians declare themselves totally and utterly superior, the next they moan at England being rewarded for beating them. One minute Australians are leaping for joy at being the best team in the world, the next they say they are disappointed at the lack of competition.
Do the English girls play with and against the men ??? Because our girls do and I’m a firm believer that is what makes our girls very talented being able to play quicker deliveries etc
Describing Aus bowling attack as good and englands as very good is all you need to know about these muppets at the top of english cricket. seriously had me rolling this clown. but deans had a good series apparently so all good
Sometimes one team is a better team and wins
16 Times one team is a better team and wins.
Lots of things to work on. Englands performances have been over-reliant on Sciver and Ecclestone for too long. Opening batting has been a persistent weakness. Performing under pressure has been a developing issue. Lack of succession planning suggests a degree of comllacency or vision. The skills balances have gone out of whack; the domination of T20 type cricket has diminished technique and resilience, in favour of power and aggression. The domestic game structure is insufficiently competative, and lacks any red ball long format games. The depth of talent, and the identification and development of that talent is inadequate. The player pyramid has become too top heavy. Facilities and grounds continue to be poor, below the top level. The lack Cricket (game) opportunities in senior schools is a critical failure, and undermines the reach of the game. Cricket continues to be seen as a game for posh people, and as such programmes addressing this aspect of 'diversity' should be prioritised over other targetted programmes. And with the small envelope of the reach of the game, the low levels of athleticism is unsurprising, but unacceptable.
Correct me if I'm wrong - but didn't India's Women just thump Australia.
yes, your wrong
Google will help you answer that mate
Give up the drugs Jeff. Was that a dream? Magic mushrooms? We thrashed India and the Kiwis.
This women got her MBE, OBE and CBE for services to cricket, say no more erm
When you come to Australia to compete you have to be ready. If not it’s brutal. Get better UK.
So stop touring Australia until we get better opportunities to adjust, acclimatise and prepare. They need us far more than we need them as can be seen in these
...comments.
Brendon Macmilan should also coach the womens team
And make them FAIL like he has in Men's cricket 😂😂😂
His name's McCullum.....unless you're confusing Baz with Harold 'You never had it so good' McMillan
@@FredNerk57 My son are you referring to Captain Macmilan in Call of Duty 4 🤣🤣🫵🏻🤡
Andy Flowers partner, no wonder she talks crap
More DEI is the answer. Please continue the policy. Our Aussie girls are real hard women.
Imagine Ecclestone being 10kg lighter instead of looking like she over-indulged over the Xmas period. She challenged through her natural talents but that's not enough at this level against one of the greatest sporting teams of all time. When you're half a team down in talent and skills you're stuffed. The two best English players were the two fast bowlers Filer and Bell. Kept charging in and were consistently dangerous. Great to watch. Tammy ''Podgy'' Beaumont was next. As a Pommie your one big consolation is that I'd pick the whole English squad to do a better job than your current disgraceful Labor Government. Enough said.
Thanks for the wittering poppycock. 😮
Utterly deluded. Connor must go.
She actually sounds more like someone trying to save her job than to sort out the problems. How can you say there's no cosiness when fringe players don't get to play against the likes of Ireland? When a player who has been out of the team for a while and cannot get back in, no matter what, is liking a tweet slamming the continued selection of so-called star names and not allowing anyone else into the cliquey squad, they have a problem. All Connor wants to do is stay in post.
What is she on about 😅??????!!!!!!!!! Keep it simple ; you all where NOWHERE GOOD ENOUGH ; SIMPPLEEEEEE 🧐 stop making yourself look foolish 🤯
"Momentum" is a load of crap
£100,000 a week for the England women playing cricket. Nice work if you can get it
What a load of rubbish from Clare!! Good bowling group, my ass. This group lacks skill, fitness, hunger. They kept playing Bouchier who was spooked after the first game, never recovered. Surely, the coach, batting coach, bowling coach can't stay on, that would be negligence. I think H Knight is a good captain, but you can only play with the team you inherit.
Show us your ass 😂😂
Culture is the key difference.
Australian have the tall poppy and self deprecation culture.
They can respect performance but keep you grounded as equals.
In my opinion, the English aspire to elitism, being above your compatriots and beyond reproach doesn't foster advancing once at that level.
Contrastly the Australians can be honest about their faults and improve with little fear.
