    I knew Dale Hawerchuk personally in Cornwall, as I grew up there. A really humble kid. First time I saw him in training camp at the Civic Complex, a friend of mine commented on how awkward he skated, like a duck. BUT! What we saw was this phenom who always had the puck. It would hit him in the back, it ended up on his stick. It would hit him in the helmet and ended up on his stick. His passes were accurate, his skills were unmatched. I thought he was Gretzky all over again. He used to come into the grocery store I worked in on Saturday mornings to talk sports. He brought the greatest moments that even happened in Cornwall. When he passed last week, another part of my childhood was taken away. RIP Dale, you left an everlasting mark, I believe with everyone who ever met you.

    Dignity and Class, always how I think of him, my first sports hero as a kid, I still can't believe he is gone. He made me proud to say, 'I'm from Winnipeg.' Rest in Peace, you ARE loved and missed.

    I remember Bobby Hull at Portage and Main and I remember Dale Hawerchuk at Portage and Main. Talk about Winnipeg hockey history!

      Portage and Main is the main business street in Winnipeg right?

    • @darylecosgrove3270
      @darylecosgrove3270 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, yes Portage and Main is the main business district with plenty of office towers and there is an underground concourse by which you have to get from one side to the other. You can't do it above ground. It's all asphalt and concrete. Unfortunately, the shopping area is a number of blocks to the west but the 8-floor Eatons store is no more (the hockey arena stands in it's space) and the 5-floor Bay store, although still there physically is no longer a shopping destination. Suburban shopping malls did both stores in. Did you also know that Main Street, at this location, is the widest street in Canada? They say that 12 Red River carts could span the street back in the day. Winnipeg during its heyday as the third most populous city in the country was known as the 'Chicago of the North' due to it's very distinctive architecture, a lot of which still stands today. The opening of the Panama Canal put a big dent in Winnipeg's future growth prospects. But low cost of living and plenty of hydro power make it a great place to raise a family.

    An amazing player for the original Winnipeg Jets and ana amazing couch Barrie Colts that helped make Mark Scheifele into the player that fans of the new Winnipeg Jets will most likely have on the team for many years!
    Thank you for the fond memories "Ducky", you will most surely be missed by all!

    Greatest player of the jets dynasty new and old. Scheifele is like. Underrated smart and one of the best but being in the shadow of McDavid. Another oiler. Crosby and Ovechkin. Not to mention how good scheifele is he probably wouldn't be here without dale hawerchuk being his coach in Barrie

    One time I saw him on TV was the Heritage Classic Alumni Game in 2016 where he played alongside Teemu Selanne and Thomas Steen. Dale even coached Mark Scheifele in Barrie long time after he played alongside Jim Nill and his coach Rick Bowness.
