  • Lots of people misuse "I" when they use it as the direct object of a sentence. Don't fall for this trap on the exam. Use this video to prepare for the Praxis Grammar and other grammar tests.

    Man am I a nerd, I sat and watched this and enjoyed learning and putting to rest some of these challenging structures without a test on the horizon or need.

    I am taking a West- B test to be a certified teacher in WA state next week. Your explanations are so clear to me to understand that I really enjoy listening to them.

      @@KathleenJasperEdD I forgot to reply but I passed! I took the E.L.S and Reading exams and I finally passed. Your videos and your Praxis book was invaluable. I read those sections word for word and it prepared me like no other study guide has. Thank you

    Would this be the correct way to use I in the example?
    'My son and I went to see the president of the university, and we were excited.'

    • @KathleenJasperEdD
      @KathleenJasperEdD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes because “my son and I” is the subject. Therefore, “I” is the correct pronoun. :)

    Among the three sisters, only me and Nancy are tall. Why is it Nancy and I?

    • @KathleenJasperEdD
      @KathleenJasperEdD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sentence should be rewritten as:
      Out of the three sisters, only Nancy and I are tall.
      You would not say, "me and Nancy."

    what about "Him and I" in the same sentence with "our" in the same sentence?. I thought to change it to "me". "him and me"

    • @KathleenJasperEdD
      @KathleenJasperEdD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct. It should be "him" and "me". Those pronouns are both direct objects. For example:
      CORRECT: Julie went to the store with him and me.
      Julie went to the store with him. Julie went to the store with me.
      Both pronouns work properly as the direct object.
      INCORRECT: Julie went to the store with him and I.
      Julie went to the store with I.
      Does not work.
      Hope this helps. Thanks for watching :)

    In the example, "Before doctors . . .", "a diagnosis", being singular, indicates that we are dealing with a singular patient in our though process. By this reasoning, "history" should be singular. Then, of course, "patients' " should be "patient's". Following the logic, none of the sentence options are correct.
