Interesting geodes compared to what I've found in the Keokuk area. I have found similar ones in north central Iowa. I suck at rock ID so no answers from me. Windy up hear so falling leaves will kill the rockhounding. Have fun at the dig. I'm hoping for one next spring as I can't make it this weekend. Rock on.✌️

I’m definitely on the lookout for more of them. They’re very unique. Almost reminds me of a thunder egg. The dig is going to be awesome and there will probably be another one late March or early April next year 👍🏽

That definitely looks like plume agate geode to me. The plume is just a other mineral that got in the hot silica rich water, that made the rock. And that other mineral started to have a chemical reaction inside the rock as it continued to form the plume structures. It can be like tube or moss looking. What we call moss agates, are not moss. There is no plant life in there. The moss is either a manganese or pyrite or other metal mineral, and it spreads out in the hot silica rich water before the water turned to rock over the years. Its cool science. Even cooler rocks! Your nodules are cool and good luck on you haunted ridge halloween machine dig! Have fun!

Thank you for the explanation 👍🏽 yeah these are definitely plume agate nodules. I suspect that the color is mainly iron sulfide minerals
