This is how People Treat you in a Small Town THAILAND

- Today we visit my favourite province and town in all of Thailand... a place famous for palm sugar, limes, chilies, seafood and salt.... and gunmen...a place where the food is always tasty and the ingredients never run out.
I picked up ywo TH-camrs today, @theroamingcook and @EllisWR and we headed off for a day of wandering, munching and general shenanigans in Phetchaburi, Instead of heading straight for the town itself, I gave them a brief, whistle stop tour of just a slice of the province. First, we headed to the salt flats, the beach and then to the ancient, beautiful town itself and headed into the old riverside market, Talat Rim Nam, whereupon we were treated like visiting royalty.
We ate food that cones from this town originally, including the most royal dish in Thailand!!
The people of Phetchaburi really outdid themselves today with there hospitality, affable nature and pride in their 'royal' town; we paid for nothing all day!
This was a proper lucky day as I WON THE LOTTERY from 2 tickets I bought in the carpark of Wat Yai - well, it was two numbers = THB 2,000 x 2 tickets = THB 4,000 - what a day!!

Thailand has a strong culture friendly people and amazing food , i just love my country.
Yes, I agree. I love your country too 🙏
Phetburi / Phetchaburi what a great little town and thank you for taking us around. Truly great for taking along Gary and Ellis along to showcase your wife's hometown. Congrats on the lotto win, it was your lucky day🙏
It is almost the perfect Thai town Bruce and the province is so beautiful.. they seemed to really enjoy the place and even put up with my 'coffee drivel' haha...... It really was a lucky day... I plan to film more in that province for sure! ❤✌🙏

What a day we had mate really appreciate you bringing us along. We will be heading back to Petburi for certain for a few days in the future, Cheers for showing us round 🙏🇹🇭
That's great to hear that you will visit again sometime - there's loads to explore and loads to eat. You are more than welcome Ellis; I enjoyed your company. Happy travels! 🙏✌
BTW, I've been trying to find my Phetburi FC football shirt (now disbanded) as it will fit you (I used to be skinny haha)... when I do, I will give to you the next time you pass through Bangkok

Being able to speak Thai a little bit, thai people will like you easily , its a secret of friendship. 😂😂 and you can speak so well. 👍👍
Thank you very much - I am trying to learn to speak more 🙏
It goes such a long way just smiling and gesturing tho, but Thais are proud of you when you at least try, even if you pronounce it wrong, smiling is key🥰😁🙏🇹🇭
What a refreshing Thailand vlog , can feel the love and respect you have ...nice tribute for your father in law 🙏
Thanks for this comment Stephen.... appreciate that mate 🙏
Amazingly friendly mate. Thanks for having us on!
The pleasure was all mine. I love how you sniffed out that AMAZING jackfruit within the first 30 seconds of being in the market mate!

I'm Thai. I have many friends in Phetchaburi.
The province is included in the Central Territory of Thailand by culture and language classification. The original language of the Phetchaburi people is characterized by a mixture of people from the central region + the southern region. It is a language that is difficult to understand for Thai people.
for local food here For me, it's sweet in many kinds of food. Because this place is the country's largest production source of sweets.
So I thought the food was sweet too.
for ancient legends The people here in the past were known for their brave and fearless hearts. Go back in time - about 50 years. Here is the source of the country's big gunmen, politicians, influential people, drug dealers. They serve the gunmen of this province. But nowadays, they have been completely wiped out by the government.
Thanks for this - it's really very interesting and informative.... If I'm honest, there are certain things I don't eat here, such as Pad Thai, as there is way too much sugar in it hehe... but there are other delicious things without sugar.... is the Phetchaburi accent very strong?
@@JBWanders73 Phetchaburi dialect for Thai people It's hard to hear because it's weird and fast.
For many dishes such as curry, it has a sweet taste. I don't like to eat sweet foods. But many of the dishes here are delicious as well.
@@arrukkikrina2755 great information, thank you

Thanks John. Hope you can join soon.
Watching your videos reminds me of the Thailand I fell in love with during the Nam war.I was stationed in Korat for 18 months and lived off post. Came back in 2000 nd missed the smells of charcoal in the air from the food carts.I'm returning 2024 and will probably go to a few smaller towns. Nice vid by the way.
Wow, you experienced Thailand in the 'golden era' of hardly any tourists. If you want to reminisce, then small towns are great in that you will get to experience all thee old smells and sights you remember so well. BTW, I know a small apartment block behind the Malaysia Hotel where a few US 'vets' still live. Thanks for watching mate 🙏✌
Nice one Mate!!!
Thanks Jeroen!

Have had a couple of excellent trips there. Love the authentic Thai towns... bollox to the overrun tourist spots.
Yeah, there are some great little towns. I'm still excited to check out new ones!
Wow .. going to salt field is cool , Im a thai, never been to see close like that only passed and saw in far distance. Like like like.
I saw them working and thought 'why not go and have a look'... nobody seemed to mind hehe
So, I was motorcycling out 70 KM west of Chiang Mai in the Thai jungle/mountains. I hit a brick that had fallen off a truck and bent my front rim. There was just enough air to get to a mom-n-pop tire repair shop. They gave me fresh strawberries and creme while the repair went on. The owner came to me and said he couldn't bend the wheel. While I sat there trying to come up with a plan, I noticed the owner go out the front door and start pushing my wheel up the road. I followed and he pushed the wheel into a TOT (Transportation of Thailand) shop. TOT could and did bend it back to round. WE returned to the tire store where the owner re-mounted the wheel. I asked how much I owed him, he replied, "Nothing, I didn't fix anything," I asked how much I owed the guys at TOT and he told me they can't charge for work done with state equipment. The Thai people are great!
That's a great positive story mate, and highlights what wonderful people there are here.... I have a similar story from Koh Chang in rainy season many years ago. I bet those strawberries and cream were for a special occasion but then they decided they would rather give them to you. It warms the heart, it really does.
Thanks JB, I cant wait to go here. Total bucket list. May your journeys be forever blessed!
Thanks a lot and may I say I love your YT name!!!! I have more than one Doug E Fresh 12" haha.... It's such a welcoming town, full of everything a visitor may desire... and the jungle at Kaeng Krachan is awesome too
@@JBWanders73 Thank you so much for the recommendations! I am literally looking this up!
Awesome JB! My grandmother’s home province. 🙏🏻🇹🇭👏🏻
Thank you very much Jim... it's a great province 🙏✌
@@JBWanders73 My mom’s younger aunt and brother live there and I visit now and then. They have several cottages and a rose apple orchard next to the river. There’s a hidden gem in town right next to the Kasikorn Bank on Phong Suriya Rd. Just to the right of the bank building in the alleyway… you will miss it if you don’t go into the alleyway. เจ๊เนี้ยว
Alleyway = just a small gap between the buildings. Easily missed!
Lovely place! hope to visit some day. Thanx JB!
It's a wonderful town mate. I've got a couple of videos coming from there very soon.

Petchburi is well known for desserts.
One of a few places in Thailand that people there
reserve how to make ancient Thai desserts.
Luckily, I have a sweet tooth and I LOVE Phetburi desserts 🙏❤

You nailed it, about Petchaburi…I have lived in this area for years and I think what you said is true and I am not sure if the new generations would know all about this. Thank you for what you do.
Thank you very much for watching... Phetchaburi is such a gem of an area 🙏
Petchaburi, wonderful video, pushes me to go back there ! Wonderful video JB💛👍🤩🙏

So delicious mate and these ones are the nuts!!
what a fantastic vlog, thank you for sharing, i gotta say, it took me about four years before i could cope with Thai spices, but i am nowhere near the level you guys are at! i used to go fishing in Ratchaburi (or just Latburi to the locals) and i loved walking around the town exploring, the local school kids loved practising their English on me and the wonderful people were so friendly, my Thai is nowhere near as good as yours so i am sure i missed out on an awful lot more. subscribed and looking forward to enjoying your vlogs
Thanks for watching mate! After living here since 1999, I love 'most' Thai spices , although I'm not too keen on the fermented fish haha... Ratburi is a similar place and great too.... I bet the fishing was good too! That's funny, My wife used to do the same thing as a kid in Phetburi; she used to lurk next to Khao Wang in the hope of seeing an English speaking foreigner to practice here English. Thanks for subscribing 🙏
They for sure looks jollier that the people in my Isan village😅. They only lighten up after some Lao Khao.
Hahaha I can picture the village and the people, bless them. People do seem to be happier in Phetburi - maybe it's all the sugar!?
The proud uncle at the noodle shop is my brother in law from Banlaem.
He loves to welcome people.
He is such a friendly, welcoming man - a real credit to the town... we met him again last week and I could not stop smiling ❤🙏
Great video JB. Less tourists = more friendly people. Yeah?
Thanks Chris.... Yes, I think that people simply aren't jaded from 'mouthy' or rude tourists in these towns and are therefore far more genuine. In places like these, the people are proud of their town , the food and the culture, and are just happy to see visitors.
Awesome Vid, I enjoyed that .. If that's not what it's all about .. Being real, with the peeps ..
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks a lot!
Nice Video 🥰👍🙏🇹🇭

Enjoyed the video mate. I'm in Petchaburi town a lot as I have several friends that live there. Your video captured the feeling of the place really well. Also, I got the sense that you really miss your father in law and that because of his connections to the town it holds a special place in your heart. That came across in the video.
Thanks very much mate. Yeah, he was a lovely man and when I think of Phetchaburi people, I think of him. The family house is there and we may well end up retiring in the town - I love the beaches and mountains nearby too.
@@JBWanders73 Yes, everything nearby for sure. Haad Chao Samran is a nice spot and of course inland Kaeng Krachan. I live 2 minutes from Khoa Nang Panturat mountain just outside Cha-am and have trekked it for years. After watching your videos it has inspired me to do a bit more and last month my wife and I camped at the bottom of Khoa Nang Panturat for the first time. In a couple of weeks we're going to camp at Sam Roi Yod for a night and in the morning trek the mountain to the temple within the cave that you showed on one of your videos. Keep up the good work mate 👍
There are two very different realities in Thailand. Falang Fantasy La La Land Phuket, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui for a few examples. Expensive over priced crap limited Thai food, dodgy touts and taxis everywhere you turn, massage, massage, mister welcome. You know the boring stressful routine.
The Thailand I have spent twenty two years wandering in I am lucky to ever encounter a foreigner. A completely different experience being away from masses of foreigners. Being able to speak at least basic Thai certainly enhances the experience with the locals.
100% agree with you there mate... same for me... I rarely see foreign tourists unless I specifically choose to - they all seem to go to the same old places. As you know, most of Thailand is a wonderful experience away from the tourist traps... what rough area do you live in?
Conversation thai people in villages do not speak English language sorry no way
Lonely life good luck
@@JBWanders73 Without getting into details as to my whereabouts , I have a home somewhere in the south and a home in north central Thailand. Places you have likely never heard of. I consider my home towns sacred and therefore only a handful of trusted friends can find me. Not that I am concerned about my safety my concern is word of mouth ruining the place I moved to escape other foreigners.
Witnessed so many places throughout Southeast Asia destroyed in my opinion by mass tourism. Pai in northwest Thailand is just one small example. Compare the differences of where there are foreigners and not and the effects not only on the environment but the irreversible noticeable damage to the Thai culture and their behavior. A subject I am sure someone could do a series on.
Most places should be left alone no amount of money can repair the damage done. Thankfully there are places like Phuket and Chiang Mai as long as the herds continue to follow each other.
Absolutely yes, amen to that, truth right there, but most come to party, look at ladyboys, drink and be stupid so they have something to tell their mates back home, but truth be spoken, that's just 1% of what this place has to offer, can drink and have fun everywhere, but you won't ever see and feel the real Thailand like that, but everyone is different, personally I enjoy life far away from farangs, even I live in a larger city, I'm in the suburbs and still less than 15 minute drive, 100 baht to go party, 0 baht to watch my veggies grow, 2, minute walk from streetfoooooooood, people are awesome and I don't have to push and shove my way through stupid Instagrammers and TH-camrs to see the sights 😅

Thanks for a great video. However, this statement stuck me in my mind " we paid for nothing all day!". You should know how little they made a day.
Hi Sue, I don't think these guys are free loaders. I am sure they were well aware how little, comparing to the western world, Thai Vendors & Laborers are making each day. They commented as such because they were surprised and bewildered at those Vendors for being so friendly, kind, and welcoming, and refusing to take the money when these guys handed them the payment. They were not gloating or taking advantage of the situation.
If I am not mistaken, I think I saw Uncle Shorty ( Loong Thea) paid for 3 bowls of noodles for these guys simply because Uncle enjoyed their company, and these guys didn't even ask for it. I don't think they even knew that he paid for them. Gary was in Chiang Khan a few days ago, he ordered Yum Nam from an elderly lady, it costed 50 baht, I believe, yet Gary handed her 100 baht bill and told her he didn't want change, not because ha was being arrogant, but he wanted to help the elderly Vendor.
Another time he went to Uthaitani, he saw a girl about 12-14 years old selling Isaan sausages to help her mother out, Gary, who was so full at this point, wanted to help the girl so he bought sausages from her, then shared those sausages with local strayed dogs. My point is, you are reading into it too much, I think.
Hey Sue the locals wanted to gift us these things, to force them to take money would have actually been rude and made the lovely interactions we had awkward.
We support the hardworking local Thai people everyday 🇹🇭🙏
Congrats on winning the lotteries . I have no such luck 😑
I never have luck... Phetchaburi must be my lucky town ✌🙏
