I wanna share my story for anyone who is hurting right now listening to this song. A few years ago I had a man who I was in love with more than I ever thought I could love anyone. I thought we were perfect for each other and when things fell apart I was completely broken..I wanted to die rather than be alone without him. But after some time passed I realized just how bad and toxic that our relationship really was. And now I have a really, truly perfect relationship with a man who loves me and only me. Just because you haven't already found your perfect partner doesn't mean they're not out there somewhere. Never lose hope and never give up. Being at rock bottom means it can only get better. I feel you. My wife of 11years back in 2018 left me and our daughter at the time she was 7 she was living with another guy wich I thought was my friend. Then she got pregnant came back in 2019 lost the baby left again for 2 months then came back I was working on forgiveness. Then in March 2020 she left again had a baby kept it from me until last month she tried to add the kid on our insurance policy well that came to me in the mail so I found out she finally came clean said she had still been sleeping with him and me she don't know who's kid it is so she says. She says she wants to stay married with me but she is still not home... I'm hurting but being strong for our 9 year old now sorry for the rant I have never really got this out until now.
I dedicated this song to my past self. A self sabotaging alcoholic who couldn't get out of her own way and lost everything. I had to finally hate the person alcohol turned me into to get sober and find out what a beautiful soul I actually am. I thank God i found my way out of a very dark place so many people get trapped in and die.

I know this is probably a song about a romantic relationship gone wrong. But I can relate this to my family situation.
I came out and our relationship was ruined after that, I went into that situation blindly, thinking they'd accept me as I am, but sadly I was wrong. I have stifled myself and who I am to better appease my mother, putting her and her feelings first even though she didn't return the favor. I set fire to my last reserves of energy just to help keep my brother warm, even when there were days when I just wanted to curl up on the floor and cry. My step-father wouldn't support me fully, clinging to his own words because my chorus wasn't his.
These people were supposed to give me the world, a place to stay safe and sound. I knew they weren't being kind or healthy, but I ignored the signs of emotional abuse because I didn't want to think about the fact that my family hated me, that they felt I deserved to be emotionally abused. They know how hard I work to do everything, but they mount even more pressure on either by having me attend to their needs or placing higher expectations on me than I could cope without sacrificing myself. It's taken 4 years to come to terms with the fact that they have been hurting me and even right now, as I write this comment, it's a difficult reality to adjust to, to finally rip off my broken rose glasses.
But I don't deserve to be treated the way they treated me. I deserve to put myself first and to nurture my forest and to sing to my own songs. I deserve to lose them, so I can find myself and someday, I will work up the... courage? Anger? Spite? To hate them and in the process learn to love myself, as I am. I am a beautiful, unique and precious person and there are people out there who love me. They just don't share my blood.
For now, I'll just loop this song and remind myself that I am worthy of love.
Edit: It's been two years since I wrote this comment. Now I live in my dream city, studying things I have adored my whole life and attending an LGBT+ group where I am safe. It took two years of saving and a month of being homeless to get here. But I did it. I got away. I said goodbye to us and hello to me. I'm healing.
