  • A tutorial how to overcome / fix a Märklin turnout- / switch motor 75491, which stopped working. It´s a known problem in digital system that the Micro switches inside the motor fails. Märklin has solved the problem on motors produced today.
It should also be noted that if you operate your switches via analog control boxes that the feedback lights on the control will both light at the same time but that's the price we pay for a switch motor which now works. A big Thank you to Peter for this comment!

Sure to help those that seek more visual guidance. For Märklin if they only built in a digital/analog switch that shorts the switches in digital mode, or a thermistor, or used gold contact plating. Well there are ways to design it better but we have what we have.

If you operate via analog control boxes, is there no danger to damage the 75491 when you push too long on the button of the box ?

Hi Martin, really helpful video. I never thought the way to resolve this problem, which is well known since hundreds of years, is so easy. But why does Märklin insist of using this antiquate way of switching?. Many, many people have trouble with these kind switches. Is Märklin not able so solve this problem, or don't they want to change anything?

It's now 2022 and I might start a layout based on the K-rail so I wonder if this workaround is still needed? Thanks in advance!

Hi mos. Please give me a tipp: got problem with mobile station 1 to get enough power on m-track, without using a märklin booster. I loose power on the old tracks. But you seem to have no problem with it. Whats your trick...? Greetings....

Hello Martin. Hope all is well. Question on the Marklin C-Track turnout solenoids. Before I start tearing up my track, can you tell me if the Marlin 74490 and 74491 turnout mechanisms require the fix shown in your video? I opened each turnout motor and I did not see the same interior wiring as you showed on the 75491 turnout motor. Thank you sir! Gene

    Hello Martin,
    Thank you for your videos.
I have a question related with analog turnouts (I have several analog M track type turnouts) and I would like to use them in my digital layout with a rapsberry pi that I have. The kit its called pi-sprog and works perfectly fine detecting decoders, the question then is: what parts do I need to digitilize old turnouts please, or let me know (if possible) where I can find that information please.
Again thank you for ypur wonderfull videos.
    Stay safe and cool.
    Sal

Usefull! I have a motor with nr 7549 which is not working properly. However I can't find any switches.... Can you help me?

Jacques According to Märklin webpage item 7549 should have switches installed. However, there might have been earlier versions of this item# w/o switches. I woul recommend you to post a photo of the motor without cover in www.marklin-users.net It is the best english spoken forum for Märklin in the world. Good luck! 👍

Regarding my post below. Can you ( or anyone else) tell me if the Marklin 74490 and 74991 turnout solenoids require the modification for digital operations?

Hello..., is that possible 75491 is connected with M84 so that we can control 75491 with MS2? Appreciate your info. Thanks.

En video med m räls och decoders för växlar och kryss skulle vara bra. Jag vill köra min m räls helt digital och har nollkoll på hur man gör

Hey Martin? I have a two questions for you. That cable you soldered, was that a copper cable?
And also, would this fix work with a c track digital system?

    • @marklinofsweden
      @marklinofsweden  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi! Yes, it was a copper cable. Yes, c track motors has the same design with these failing micro switches.

Last thing, If I do this fix, will I be able to control my turnout via my remote? I'm using a digital system.

Yes. No difference. Only thing you will notice after the modification is that the motor will make a humming noice during operation. If you find this noice annying, then just reduce the operate time set for the switch. It´s typically set to 500ms, but can be reduced down to 100, or 50ms
