    Dusty is actually of Irish parentage though she was raised in London UK. She was a huge fan of Tamala Motown and heavily influenced by black American music.

    This song was originally written for Aretha Franklin, but, she passed on it! They gave it to Dusty, and the rest is history. You likely have already discovered that, though. 😉

    I haven't seen "Kill Bill", but this song can be heard in "Pulp Fiction" when John Travolta arrives at the house while Mia/Uma Thurman is getting ready.

    ps big news: adele has a one note one dynamic voice. She doesnt come close to the nuance Dusty Springfield had re vocal control and range. She could never sing In The Land Of Make Believe, No Easy Way Down, or Breakfast In Bed... or most of the songs on Dusty In Memphis. No wonder she/adele says Springfield was her favorite singer growing up.

    The song is originally on her album "Dusty In Memphis". I saw Dusty once here in NYC at an old Maury the K show. Alan Freed's R&R shows in the early 50'swere the first really integrated audiences here in NYC where there were no designated black section----and yes, you could be arrested in this country for not obeying Jim Crow laws at the time. Murray took over for Alan after he was fired for accepting bribes to play songs (called "Payola") on his radio station in 1959. Murray's first shows were in 1960. There weren't that many people in the audience that day and she invited everyone by waving people forward from the balconies and back rows to move up into the orchestra seats. She then proceeded to do "I Only Want To Be With You" and "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". She was dynamic and expressive on stage, and she moved around a lot. As compared to Dionne Warwick whom I saw earlier (later?) at a Murray the K show who was too afraid to move from her one spot. The Dusty show was September 9, 1964 and the show included Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, The Contours ("Do You Love Me?), The Temptations, Millie Small ("My Boy Lollipop"), The Searchers, Jay and The Americans, The Dovells ("Bristol Stomp"), Little Anthony and The Imperials, The Shangri-Las ("Leader Of The Pack"), The Ronettes and The Supremes. What a show.

      WOW!!!!!!! what a show is absolutely CORRECT!!! HOLY TOLEDO!! ... I THINK I WOULD HAVE... hold on... i had to stop yelling in all caps..LOL.... to see Smokey Robinson, Diane Warwick and now that i am acquanted with Dusty... wowie WOW! I WOULD have came outta my shell to see that show!! BET!

    • @helgar791
      @helgar791 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KristinKali Okay, hold onto your seat. The Murray the K show I saw Dionne was on September 4th, 1963 and it included (and this is all true), Ben E. King (Stand By Me), Little Stevie Wonder (and he did "Fingertips"), The Drifters ("Under The Boardwalk"), Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, The Tymes ("So Much In Love"), The Chifons ("He's So Fine"), Jan and Dean ("Little Old Lady From Pasadena"), Jay and The Americans, Gene Pitney ("Town Without Pity"), and The Ronettes. I went to a lot of his shows because I lived only 10 blocks away and the bus took me directly from my door to the theater and directly back. Before I was 13 years old I saw over 100 live R&R acts. By the time I was 30 I also saw pretty much every classic rock band.

    I how did the music get so bad? Good question, here is one answer. It takes to long for a real artist to create, it is much easier and more profitable to just punch out music based on a proven formula of rhythm and cord progressions, somebody with an ok voice, apply auto tuning, kick in the marketing machine, and success. You don't even have to be talented anymore, just good looking.
