Makes me wish we’d get arcade ports/remakes of arcade lightgun games in VR. Especially Silent Scope would be amazing with the PSVR gun.
Appreciate the good review Bryan. The whole gotta get stars thing is a huge deal breaker for me. I’ve bought and played every sniper elite to date and always loved being able to screw up and have everybody rush my location only to run into my trip wires as I jump out a window to set up in a new spot. If this type of play docks me points in order to move on it’s a definite wait for a sale for me.
Great review as always! Re: the manual reloading with the moves - I see you cycled the rifle with your left hand. Did you try doing this with your right hand while holding the rifle with your left hand (like it's done IRL)? I'm just curious if that would be easier.

Played this today it was so much fun! Thanks for recommendations 😁😁😁😁 edit. I noticed you picked up ammo with ease. I found it really hard to get the x. to either show up or stay highlighted. Super hard to pick ammo up from gun clips.

Most anticipated vr game for me
5:47 i absolutely hate when games say I need to have enough stars to continue. I bought the game, I should be able to play how I want. If I want to play casually and finish it on easy, I shouldn’t need to gather stars to finish. Just let me play! If I want to play on normal or hard to get a bunch of achievements and stars I could do that too but not everyone wants that.

I played the shnikee's out of the 3D version back when 3d TV's were all the rage...it was insanely cool and addicting...but odd as a sniper uses one eye to execute through the scope, so why in 3D?? But it was hecka cool. I will certainly get this!

Thanks for the "honest" reivew that points out the "good and bad" of the game. It's interesting that both you and RoadtoVR also dinged the game on the "lackluster" story elements but you are more generous on your final rating than they were (they gave it only a "5" out of 10 rating and said it was just "Ok"). I appreciate your honesty though. BTW, although I have a PSVR (and still actively use it), I ended up picking this up for my Rift S from the Oculus store because it's "Cross-buy" so I was also able to install the game on my OG Quest as well without having to pay for it again. Despite its flaws, I'm looking forward to diving into the game.
It's always interesting to see how much certain faults bother different reviewers. I hated the blur and world scaling of Doom 3 but had SO MUCH FUN that for the budget price of $19.99 I couldn't give it anything less than a 9. And for me, if a game is a lot of fun it's easy to overlook some of it's more glaring issues.
There's games like blood and truth that I was eager to get day one, but I think I'll wait a bit for this one.

I've been following Sniper Elite VR for over 2 years and I never heard of any multiplayer plans. I'll look into it though - I've been wrong before! :D

Had to grab sniper elite vr day one especially for £25.Sniper elite 4 is one of a handful of flat games I’ve played from start to finish so now to be able to play a new sniper elite game and in vr with the aim oh boy I can’t wait to ride the bullet
As a VR gaming fan that has played and enjoyed other Sniper Elite games as well as other games from Rebellion, I am very interested in this game, but I am not sure if I should get this for PSVR and play with the PS Aim controller or get it for my Oculus Quest 2 and use those controllers.
It would be nice if VR reviews would start not just covering multiple control options on PSVR, but also PSVR vs Quest for games that are on both platforms.
I appreciate your well thought out and balanced review. Been waiting on this game for a while and am super pleased that its out today and it is a decent game. Can't wait for my first X-Ray kill.

8.5 is a great score for this game but listening to you talk about it feels like a 2 on your 1-3 scale. Thanks for the honest review. I will indeed wait for a sale on this one.
That's ultimately why I started adding numerical scores to reviews. Because sometimes when you have to list EVERYTHING that's wrong with a game it can make things sound worse than they are. A number helps put things in perspective. Strangely enough the game that convinced me to add scores was Sinn Studio's Warzone. The review sounded oddly positive and afterwards I realized that ending the review by stamping it with a 2/10 would have made everything crystal clear. :D

I totally forgot this was coming out. I've watched your videos before playing a lot of PSVR games. I've been waiting for a good game that uses the Aim controller.
Honesty I’m okay with the game being 7-10 hours. In VR it is difficult to finish games that are 15-20 hours. That is a lot of time in the headset itself. I’m also a VR trophy hunter so games like Skyrim and Borderlands 2 are at the bottom of my backlog due to their length.

Great review! At the beginning it looked like there was floaty tilting and drifting, which made me wonder if it would make some players nauseous. You didn’t mention it, so I’m assuming it’s not a factor at all. Thanks for the info!
Correct me if I'm wrong but what you're referring to sounds like world wobble. It generally should never happen - if it becomes an issue make sure you don't ever use the Rest Mode on your PS4 or PS5 - for whatever reason it causes severe world wobble after awhile for some people. Always turn off your console completely before restarting it and playing a VR game. :D
Great info about “world wobble”! I’ve had to do restarts while using VR, when the headset was acting wonky, or when Spotify just seemed to not “let go” of audio control in the background. I’ve only experienced motion sickness twice in VR. Once during Wipeout Omega, and slightly in Driveclub VR. Both seemed to have a drifting/tilting effect that felt unnatural and threw me off.
Aim Controller is the reason I‘m still unsure if I should get it on PSVR or PCVR.
The Aim controller is a game changer. I really hope the develop something similar for the PSVR2. Impulse Gear (Farpoint devs) that is haha

Bought it this evening for 10 euro .... Fun game i dont have the aim controller still looking for it for a nice price .. i know iam late to the party butt still fun game ... I will practice in the shooting range with the motion controllers ...

I want this game so bad! But i'm broke and also Synth Riders comes out this month (27th) which i need to have on day one. So i guess i buy Synth Riders first. Seems to have more replay value (i'm a sucker for VR rhythm games) and then i'll buy Sniper Elite with my next salary. Hopefully we get a patch eventually to increase visual fidelity on the PS5.

Just bought this and I'd be having a lot more fun with this if I wasn't having such awful drift issues. Don't experience drift all that much in other games. My hands don't seem to be in the same place as my controller and my gun is often pointing 45 degrees to the right. Also there's a lot of bits which feel a bit unfair with enemies just spawning out of thin air. Oh well, maybe one day I'll fork out for an aim controller and get the intended experience from this.

Sniper Elite VR is its own game. It's not an upgrade or patch to any existing Sniper Elite game. You need to buy it separately. Does that answer your question? If not let me know! :D

Couple questions I can't seem to find an answer to anywhere on the interwebs..
#1 What the hell does the setting "comfort scope" do?! I've had it off and on, yet notice zero difference?? I am playing with the AIM, so unless it's for a different controller scheme.. 🤷♂️
#2 When crouched, I randomly get a vignette when moving. At first, I thought maybe the vignette appears only when you're hidden in shadows or whatever, but after testing it under lights and in the open, there doesn't appear to be any consistent pattern?
Besides that and some annoying bugs, like shooting someone near point blank, only to watch the bullet pass right through them, it's a decent game. I think my hype was so high from being a SE fan, that I expected more of an open world game.

How hard is Authentic compared se3 or se4?
I always crank the difficulty level all the way up on the hardest difficulty on most games to make it last a while the only game I dont do that on is Dark Souls that gets insane

Hey Brian I just bought this game yesterday and playing it on my ps5 in VR but I have horrible weapon/hand sway with the move controllers. Any suggestions how to fix? Already tried brightening the room and moving the ps camera but still have same results.

Snap turning, teleport, blinders, no in motion killcam. All the comfort options are present to ruin allmost all immersion! Enjoy!🤣

What’s the toiletseat-looking thing at the end next to the different controllers the game supports?
VR Rudder. It is used for walking in vr games, i think it reduces nausea for some as it replaces walking with the stick on the controller(s). Not sure it is supported a lot tbh, i don't think so

Took me 7 hours to blast through on the normal/default difficulty - but i think you'll want to play through a 2nd time on the hardest setting. It's really challenging. :D

No hub worlds and the levels are fairly linear

Every time I've played with aim controller I have to aim to the right of the cross-hairs to get a kill shot🤔 no matter how many times I celebrate it does the same thing
What's with the blinders? Are they forced?
Somehow that explanation got chopped out of the actual review (I was up all night editing this, hopefully there weren't too many mistakes lol) - but yes when you're in cover or when explosions go off mandatory blinders kick in. It's not frequent but it does suck.

I got this recently and am new to vr why is this games graphics almost look 8 bit and barely playable but on TV it looks good

Please tell me this at least has a Pro patch. New games getting released just for the 2013 base PS4 hardware in 2021 is getting ridiculous.
It looks great and I'm a sucker for VR shooters, but for $30 I think I'll wait.
Doesn't seem to benefit from the Pro/PS5 sadly.. On the other hand, it isn't annoyingly blurry or anything. Acceptable in my book.
@@shapeshifter-theamorphousg3264 It depends on the person, I think. Some people thought Doom 3 VR without a pro patch was fine, some don't. I caught Doom 3 VR on a sale ($13 was more like it), and for all the PSVR games that still look nice in 2021, and Doom 3 VR isn't one of them -- needs a patch.
I just don't see why we're seeing even more PSVR games without Pro patches AFTER the PS5 is out, of all things.
@@JoshCzoski Played it at a friends house today who has a base PS4 and compared to my PS4 Pro it looked definitely not as clear and/or sharp. The game profits when played on Pro or PS5 i can assure you! Same graphics but it runs better basically, which is nice.

There are no PS5 enhancements, so it loads faster but that's about it

Anyone else not happy with the aim controller movement? They've tied the movement direction to where you're looking rather than where your controller is pointing. It's the opposite way round to all the other PSVR shooters that use the aim controller. It's killing the immersion for me and I keep walking into things.

Because this game is INFINITELY more fun with the AIM controller. The Moves are fine and manual reloading adds some realism. The AIM is the best way to play though.

I went ahead and go this because I'm such a sucker for VR shooters but I'm really unhappy with this.
The blurry visuals hurt the playability of this game. It's supposed to be about sniping, which means looking for tiny details in the environment and the experience is like going in as a sniper who forgot to bring his glasses. The blurry visuals make it so much harder to make out small details like you need to be able to do in this game as much as anything. The other big issue is the sound sourcing which is extremely important for this kind of experience, and it's way off, with enemies sounding like they're close by when they aren't oftentimes. The story and narration are completely annoying because it's so canned, just the ultimate uninspired WWII narration where no one involved sounded like they cared or had a hint of inspiration.
The core game design really works, but the execution is such a half job. What makes this game so offensive is that it came out in 2021 and feels like it's just exploiting the desperation of PSVR owners in the drought of new titles.

Mandatory blinders, that’s a huge red flag for me.
Timed missions (in order to collect stars), another red flag.
The move controllers don’t naturally lend themselves to two handed weapons, more of an Amber flag than a Red one.
All in all I’m enough of a mug to buy the damn thing regardless. Your review leaves me with no excuses if I’m slightly disappointed.

Well, I love what this game could be, but the tracking is beyond broken. When I'm not told I've "left the play area" when I haven't moved, my weapons rotate to the left by about 45° anytime I use the focus mode...
My system has been extensively calibrated and recalibrate with multiple camera positions, but this game will not cooperate.
I'll keep an eye out for a patch.
I've heard some people say they had drift issues with Sniper Elite VR but your situation sounds unique. Just for my own curiosity, which console are you playing on (PS4/Pro/PS5)? And does this happen regardless of which controller you're using?

I'm on the Pro using a DS4 (AIM is $100 here in Canada and that's if you're lucky enough to find one!).
Multiple DS4s all have the same problem and only with this game (it really becomes apparent when using the L2 button). The headset itself hasn't exhibited any more drift than usual though.
I love the game otherwise, as it really feels like one of my all time favorites, Goldeneye! (A multi-player feature would be a sweet add on).
