This is really useful, to be honest I've started fighting left more and more recently because I feel so many right handlers just don't know what to do when I block off the shoulder and their foot position allows me to step in left For me I'm naturally left footed, it feels weird to me to put my right leg forward, awkward and uncomfortable even though Im right handed. Unsure on whether to just start training left sided (where I have had way more success in randori) or just try and get used to that right footed position
Hi Matt, Great trick! I'd have some experience in MMA, But I recently (Almost 3 months) started training Judo under a 6th Dan Black belt (Good for me)... Anyway, Today I used this tricks but some partners said it's an illegal grip and I can't used in Competition... Is this true? Thanks a lot, for sharing all your knowledge!
No it's not illegal. That's complete bollocks in all honesty (I'm a 1st Dan & have been for a few years now. Just so you know where the advice is coming from).
Hi Matt, i like your videos a lot, grat job. I tried to go on your new page "university of judo" these days but it says you gotta be a member... how can I log in?
I was wondering if you had any tips for throws against judoka with wrestling backgrounds. I have been training with a few, and they get real low and heavy and base themselves out so far that by the time I execute my kuzushi, their feet or hips are retreated to where I can't attempt a throw without sacrificing my balance. It's been frustrating me.
Matt, I know this is an old video but I was wondering if in 2017 competitors are still allowed to control the right hand in this manner. I know you can't use 2-on-1 to strip grips but what about when initially engaging your opponent?
No one has a better youtube channel than you!
Another great lesson, thanks a million!
No problem
