I have read The Martian Chronicles so many times my copy fell apart. I had to borrow one from the library. I was so excited to see this video come up on my feed. I just led a book group on The Martian Chronicles and only one person came and she didn't care for the book that much. No one even checked out the book from those that were being held at the library. It's so nice to be among those who love Ray Bradbury. I find him amazing on so many levels: for his beautiful writing, his imagination, storytelling, and very profound ideas. My favorite story is The Fire Balloons.
I fell in love with Bradbury's stories when I was in the middle school, reading the translated versions in my mother tongue, Japanese. His works have been all published and very popular in Japan.
I think Ray Bradbury is responsible for getting me into literature. I was a high school student dabbling in the classics when I read F 451 and fell in love. It showed me how incredible literature could be. It is my favourite novel to this day, I reread it every two years at least. I love his short stories, I've read a good chunk out of that Everyman's Library volume and read another collection of his, with 100 short stories selected by the author, in its entirety. My fave stories are The Murderer, The Poems, The Fruit at the Bottom of the Bowl, and The Watchers.
"The Veldt" and "There Will Come Soft Rains" are two of my all-time favorite short stories. I'm lucky to have had 'The Illustrated Man' on a school reading list. Years later I read and loved 'The October Country' and his coming-of-age novel 'Dandelion Wine.' Wonderful stuff.
I am a huge Bradbury fan! Especially his short stories. The Martian Chronicles is my favorite, but The Illustrated Man is almost as good. I have plenty more to read! Great video!

A buddy of mine went with me to a book signing by Bradbury. My friend brought with him a copy of THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES he had swiped from his high school library. He had the brass to tell Bradbury that he loved the book so much, he stole it! But the last I heard, my friend's plan was to surreptitiously return the book to the school library so that the school would unwittingly possess a signed copy. Absolutely a true story.
I had to check this out after I heard you say it wasn't getting the views it deserved. And I agree, Bradbury was who got me into science fiction. Those are some really nice looking editions. One of my most prized belongings is a signed edition of "Death is a Lonely Business." 😁

Loved that 3rd expedition story! Really got into Ray Bradbury a few years back but drifted away for some reason. The lake was a story that stuck out for me from The stories of Ray Bradbury....and of course There will come soft rains. I think it's time for some rediscovery!
I've only read Farenheit 451 which I loved, and his book Zen of Writing, loved it. Need to check out The Martian Chronicles, beautiful copy that you have. I love short stories.

I read The Martian Chronicles in middle school and thought it was a novel. I was so confused that it didn’t flow exactly from front to back as a novel. I learned later the stories were individual but connected. No wonder I was so confused. I got the Americas Library edition with 4 of his greatest books and that is in there. I will be rereading it soon. I also have the Gauntlet Press S/L of Dark Carnival reissue. I wonder if the Everyman’s Library has those stories as well. The edition is too nice (and valuable) to read!
Great overview of Mr. Bradbury and his works. Very interesting. It's been decades since I read any Bradbury, as in at least 30 years. But I remember not caring much for his story lines and content. Beautiful prose but not my type of science fiction. But I'll give him another shot.
Bradbury was born in 1920, not 1922. I think you misspoke there. And yes, THE STORIES OF RAY BRADBURY includes exactly one hundred stories. Five had not appeared in any previous collection, including the magnificent "Gotcha!", the scariest of all his stories, and that's saying a lot. Bradbury followed up this huge volume with another: BRADBURY STORIES:100 OF HIS MOST CELEBRATED TALES. This 2003 book once again included exactly 100 stories, with no overlap with the earlier super-collection. So if you own those two super-sized collections, you'll have 200 of his stories! Taken together, those two books have just about all Ray Bradbury's best stories. I say "just about", because his very first good science fiction story, "R Is for Rocket", is unaccountably left out of both.
I Sing the Body Electric was his only story that became an episode of The Twilight Zone. If you haven't watched Ray Bradbury Theater (pretty much the Twilight Zone but only his stories) it has some great episodes and is my inspiration for interior design. As a teenager I always said that Ray Bradbury wrote the science fiction I liked, but I think that probably just means I don't like science fiction. Haven't read any of his stuff in years sort of want to jump back in now.

Man was a genuis. Started writing cause he needed money and thought spinning a tale or two was an easy way to do it.

Bradbury is hit or miss with me. Sometimes I really like his story. Other times they didn't interest me at all.
"Fahrenheit 451" is filled with right-wing nuttiness. People don't read that novel carefully.
