- Just prior to the opening of the Storebelt connection, Danish trains still needed a ferry to run from the capital on the island of Sjaeland on to the main land.
We see the ferry terminal in Nyborg on the island of Fyn, that already for long years has a bridge to the mainland.
Passing coaches and goods vans is in decline.
Notice the triple coach intercity dmu's that allow fast splitting and combining, thus fitting on the ship deck.
This ingenious Danish development allows full walk through the length of the train, because of the passage door that can easily be turned aside to make room for a fully equipped driver seat with the necessary head lights built in.
Though the intercity offers place to through travelers, many others travel on the ferry a foot, taking a local train or bus from the port, as is visible.
All these port facilities are reported to have completely vanished after the opening of the bridge/tunnel link for both cars and trains.
Nyborg 1992 war eine sehr schöne Zeit. 🇩🇰😊🤗👍
It was a nice time, the break on the ferry ! For many years, since the introduction of the IC3 and the large three ferries from 1980, the fast train (IC3, with four units maximum) arrived at the last minute when the slower train (IR), classical with normal passenger coaches was already waiting on the boat. At the arrival of the ferry on the other side (Korsoer or Nyborg),
the fast IC3 was leaving the ferry immediately and the slower IR train later.!
Yes I was there in 1981 too. Sorry no video camera then...;-) In those years the freight bays (single track) on both sides of the double track passenger bay were much busier. It was a joy to watch cargo going off and from the ferries. They would take lorries as well, once the rail wagons were loaded. The freight bays had points that could pre-select one of three tracks into a tangled track on the bridges, to separate once on board.
Dejlige optagelser. Tak for delingen!
