    Nice job Luke! I like open C, G & D.
Lots of good information here. Many instructional videos contain so much filler, redundant chatter, etc.
I can't think of another instrument that has such sonic versatility. ♥️ the tunings.

Paul - thanks for checking out the alternate tunings video and leaving a great comment! Very cool that you like open C, G & D! I'm with you all the way on guitars. I started on piano as a kid (mom got me piano lessons), then I picked up guitar on my own, and guitar is definitely my favorite: very portable, acoustic can play with no electricity, can move freely on the stage, much easier to change keys (capo) vs. regular (not a keyboard) piano key changes can be difficult, and easy to use alt tunings 🎸😁

Hey Luke, it's your old pal Lee from the great white north a.k.a. Canada. Long time, no comment (lol). All jokes aside, I wanted to tell you that I think you did a great job on the "alternate tunings" video. It was really well thought out and executed. Playing a couple riffs from the songs that used each particular tuning was a great idea too. I have no doubt that a lot of people gained some priceless knowledge watching it. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the viewers were unaware of the existence of open tunings until they saw this. Heck....even this old pooch learned a new trick when you showed that bizarre "all C's except for one G" tuning for the Stephen Stills tune. I actually tuned to it and have been fooling around with it a little today. (Sorry for the insanely long comment). Thanks again for posting this video, Luke. Ooops, I almost forgot. I learned an open tuning that I've never seen before, so it might also be new to you, as well. It's the tuning for "Daughter" by Pearl Jam.
    E goes down to D
    B stays a B
    G " " G
    D " " D
    A goes down to G
    E " up to G
Hope all is well for you and your family, Luke. Take care, my talented friend. 🇺🇸✌🎶

Fantastic tutorial Luke! I like the way you put shortcuts in the description and the examples are all great songs.
I recently discovered Joni Mitchel used alternate tunings and didn't play in std. as most people do. That's why she sounded so amazing. Many pick up a guitar and want to emulate her, but probably don't know she wasn't in standard tuning playing cowboy chords. I didn't know. I never really thought about it or learned any of her songs. She is an awesome artist.
Nice to have more than one guitar so you can keep one in standard!

      @LukeMcHale  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks brother! I don't know Joni Mitchell's music that well, but I've heard a lot of people say they are big fans of her music and interesting tunings. Yes, I think that's a good set up for a gig, 2 guitars (1 regular tuning, 1 in an open tuning)

Bravo Luke for this good video who will teach us how to play guitar with alternate tunings. I will take the time for watch every part and learning every song. I think the Beatles never use another alternate tunings ? Have a good tuesday, warm Greetings Lise & Christian

    • @LukeMcHale

Yes, I don't know of any Beatles songs that were in alternate tunings. George Harrison played some slide guitar, which makes me think he might of used some open chord tunings? However, I can't name any Beatles songs in alternate tuning that I know of. Thanks so much for checking out the alternate guitar tunings video - they can be a lot of fun to try! Warm greetings to you from North Carolina, United States!

William - thanks so much man for checking out the alt tuning video and for the kind words! 🙏😁 Yes, I feel like the alt tunings can open up a lot of new possibilities for songs to cover, and for originals. Many songs in this video already have excellent tutorials out there on TH-cam. I generally try to aim for tutorials on areas that are not as well covered (e.g. I did some Chicago tutorials, etc.). I don't have anything currently in the works on an full alt tuning song, but I appreciate the feedback, and will keep the idea in mind. Keep rockin!
