Amanda Bynes has always hit me really hard. I never quite understood why she would have so many mental problems when she was so good at what she did. But Candace after you broke it down and explained it, your way it makes a lot of sense. This lovely child was so good in her comedic timing with a bright personality when she was very young, but like you said having to repeat these types of scenarios with so many different character switches, potentially lead to her developing mental health issues as she got older. It’s so sad, Amanda Bynes could’ve been one of the greats.

I actually have a lot of hope for her because she recognised and had self awareness she was coming out of a psychotic episode rather than denying it which is what MANY mentally ill people do. She called for help, she didn’t run, didn’t go looking for drugs or go into hiding or let herself go do anything else. She sought help which means she genuinely does want to get better. She understood something went wrong and now she had to work on herself to get better - it means she cares enough to try.

She seems to be one of the rare ones who wants to be better and understands she can be. I think she really DID need to be taken from the celeb world and into a normal life where she could find herself. The fact that ten years went by and we didn’t hear much seems to indicate she must have at least been doing somewhat better. Don’t know what’s triggered her but clearly she recognises it and wants to try to get back on track. She doesn’t seem to be seeking attention or sympathy. Amanda is lucky enough that she recognized something was not right and called for help. 100% accurate regarding the mental confusion and dysfunction that occurs when young children adapt a different personality and play that part. If that’s the case it *can* also happen in non professional drama (school, extra curricular activities) but it depends on the situation. I think taking drama classes can actually be beneficial if don’t correctly. In Amanda’s case she was doing this every day, for years, with severe pressure and trauma put under her. That makes a big difference compared to a well adjusted child from a good family taking part in one or two plays during middle school/high school.

My son was a childhood model & actor. Proud to say he was in two national commercials as well as various print and media outlets. As he got older the roles he auditioned for and the dedication and effort he needed to put in to it started to take it's toll so we stopped at the age of 9 . I'm proud of him, and it enabled us to bank a fairly good amount of money into his college fund however it definitely isn't for everyone

So then after that hour he can be a much better Father & Husband vdj f mentally refreshed. & Then I also believe the Mother should the also get that 30 mins to hour to herself as well. I see so many women who are stressed out & the minute the Man walks in the door the Woman is trying to hand off the kids & I get it if she's been home all day w children she's mentally & emotionally drained - but by allowing the Man to get that needed time first personally I think ends up being ideal for the entire family ❤

The difference is that I had a firm foundation in my home and parents that pit a stop to things when it got tough. Another area in which these child actors struggle as well is with the sexual immortality and abuse inflicted upon them by deviant adults. I see this most of all in a lot of these tell all books. I think some of the actors actresses that have been dealing with mental health issues may have had that issue as well and may have not yet come to terms with that reality. I wouldn’t allow my children to be child actors however blaming it on that is too easy and saying no drama class is absurd. She’s severely mentally ill and it wasn’t caused by singing and dancing in my opinion. She was playing very silly and comedic roles as far as I’m aware she never played a character with any seriousness or depth that was mentally ill like Hannibal Lector and terrifying. She’s no Anthony Hopkins. In my opinion her issues are both nurture and nature. I think she was born with an illness and a that combined with the consequences of the realities of what was happening to her behind the scenes, her real childhood, abuse I believe she was subjected to, and what happens to a young persons mind when confronted with all that comes along with celebrity and fame. Especially on one with an underlying severe mental illness that wasn’t yet fully present and obviously undiagnosed. It seems obvious she was abused to what extent I have no idea. Not to mention that peace and love cure all plant that everyone seems to think is pure innocent magic (not sure I can say it on TH-cam) is known scientifically and factually to trigger mental illness and psychotic episodes to start appearing in young people. If memory serves me correctly Miss Bynes did copious amounts of the so called innocent fun party plant when her troubles became obvious to the world. Not that it causes it but it seems to help it become known and spur on what’s already there. I do feel bad for her. For the abuse I believe she endured and the struggles she faces now. The young lady she was will never return. She’s forever altered. It’s very sad to see. It didn’t happen from playing silly pretend though.

I completely agree. The only child actors that I can think off the top of my head that came out “normal” was Tia and Tamera and their brother Tahj Mowery. I used to watch the talk show the real and Tamera always talked about how her parents, army vets, kept them grounded and guided them through their childhood acting career and they are the most normal down to earth celebs. And that’s what a lot of kids don’t get is the proper guidance and support and love from their parents. Most of these parents get greedy and see dollar signs in their eyes, it’s terrible.

You shine a light on a topic that has probably been lurking in the shadows since the silent era. Over the years we have caught glimpses of the sinister side of being a child actor, but those reports were always short lived and Hollywood could always continue to carry on as before. Your empathy, tethered to reason, was power pack. I know you won’t turn this into a sideshow cause, but I do hope to hear more as the story unfolds. Well done.

When you have to emotionally mask yourself and put on an act constantly, it’s exhausting. I can’t imagine a developing child having to do this. Over the years I’ve learned it’s better to be more authentic when selling. If I’m in a bad mood or dealing with something, sometimes I’ll just open up about it to my client. It not only feels better but can help improve the relationship that I’m building with the client. People like authenticity, to a degree.

Candace you make a great point. I relate it to children that grow up with family members that emotional abuse them. It never makes sense why they're mad, what happened, suddenly screaming and beatings are happening out of nowhere. And as children the survival technique comes in to play to submit and agree. Apologizing for things you didn't do because if not the abuse won't stop. I think it's very similar and definitely affects how we are as adults, usually people pleasers or overdramatic and overly emotional to minor things. I feel so terrible for Amanda, I pray for her. To be fair, Candace’s ‘Amanda Bynes and child acting theory’ makes sense. She’s definitely got a point, since most of the child celebrities I’ve ever known has had a rough life full of troubles and abuses as they grew into their adulthood. Macaulay Culkin, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Drake Bell, just to name a few. Her theory is completely logical. Childhood fame might look fun and something that each and every person would definitely want at least once in their lifetime. But given all these examples, many including myself, thank God that we never had it.
