I'm a disabled 58 year old lady. In a new build and for the last year have struggled to lock my back door. Twice I've had people from the housing association out but no joy. This video helped me today to give it a go and my door now locks. I had to rest inbetween doing it and get my breath back but I'm a trouper and I'm not being beaten by upvc! X
Absolutely perfect instructions to solve the problem with my pvc door. Thought it was going to cost me a fortune and had to leave it unlocked for a couple of nights. Thank you so much for your help.
Grabbed an allan key and screwdriver and in five minutes I had fixed the patio doors. Wife was very impressed. Now I can relax for the rest of the weekend.... maybe. So thank you so much for the video and all the brownie points I have earned.
Thank you so much, I just finished adjusting our patio doors, after putting up with misaligned doors for years and hurting my arm and wrist when trying to open them ... Excellent tutorial, easy to understand.. 👌
Many many thanks for posting. Following your easy to understand video here on TH-cam, I managed to fix my door in under 1 minute. Saved me a small fortune if I'd called out a door company!
Thank you! Yours is the first video (of many) that explained that the hinge cap has to slide and click before you can remove it. Was doing my head in but I've fixed my door now!
Very clear and thankfully, compared to many other TH-cam videos, brief and to the point. About to correct my patio doors which have been out of alignment for years!
Amazing help!! Mine were sprayed 18months ago so they would not pull towards the window. Used a flat head to jimmy in between the hinge cover and hinge gave it a little tap and worked as above!!
My doors are of a different type, but watching this I was able to get the general idea and adjusted it without a problem - Thank you. 👍Also, when one turns the Allen screw,it's really good to see the door moving ! 😊
patio doors have been a bit dodgy almost since they were installed a few years ago. Last week couldn't lock them any more. watched your video and 15 minutes later they're better than new. Many thanks!
Awesome... My door was catching the latch and was starting to damage the door ... Thanks to you it is spot on again... Thanks for making the video - top man! 📹📹👍👍👌👌
Hello! I jut wabted to say a huge thank you for this video. I kind of knew the principles, but having it demonstrated in such a clear way was absolutely key to rebalancing my own patio doors. Mine have a vertical adjustmennt in the hinge as well, but you gave me the confidence and uderstanding to finally tackle the job. Cheers!
Okay tried this a second time and the door now won't open because the lock mechanism is caught on something. I tried adjusting it back slightly but that didn't work. It would help if you did a thorough explanation on moving the door up and down, and from side to side.
Legend... thanks for this video. Been scratching my head trying to figure out how to adjust these doors. What do the 2 Allen key Bolts do under the hinge?
Hello is this the most common double door glazing type of hinge adjustment, are their other forms of hinges on double doors that you could cover? Thanks
What screw would you tighten to make a door a bit more firmer ?, when there’s a bit of wind the left door will stay open, but the right door will slam shut with the slightest of wind
Have you got a video for a French door that closes fine but there’s a gap at the bottom!? Ours is driving me mad it’s letting in so much cold air ! Just need an idea on how to adjust it and fix it! X
Unfortunately you may need to do a bit of playing around with it. Try and stay to the same rule of "the top hinges will need to turn more than the bottom ones" but some guess work may be required. Hope this helps!
You should only have to adjust it once, if you're having to adjust it every few weeks then there must be another issue. Did you manage to get a solution?
Is it the same method for gaps at the top of door , min close ok without catching but there's a small gap at the top letting light and cold air through 😑
You may need a professional locksmith to adjust or toe and heal the door to the correct possible. Our engineer cover North West England if you live in that location, call 01942 886452.
Hinges should only be adjusted if they are clearly out of alignment,if the has dropped it is usually a packing issue and hinge adjustment is a temporary fix at best. If you have moved the door to correct position there is the possibility that a previous person has moved the keeps down on the frame or if French doors the slave leaf has also dropped
Easier to adjust door to frame but not ideal . If safestyle fitted the door then good luck because they are the worst fitted doors I have ever worked on
Lads, I have the same style door and there is a problem with the gearbox. I had no key for it so broke the barrel and it also broke something in the gearbox and now I can't get the door unlocked even with putting in a new barrel. Any suggestions please
We would advise you seeking the attention of an experienced and qualified locksmith, if you live in the North West of England then we can help on 01942 886452. Otherwise, contact a local locksmith but make sure they are qualified, DBS check and possible have a locksmith store for reassurance.
@@TrainlocksmithsCollege I'm actually in Ireland but appreciate your reply. I take it that it is actually possible to get it opened without damaging the door then?

Yes this is the most common, we'll try to get round to covering more soon!
Great video, how do you adjust the compression nearest the wall side?
What screw would you tighten to make a door a bit more firmer ?, when there’s a bit of wind the left door will stay open, but the right door will slam shut with the slightest of wind
Is this the same for metal hinge covers? Trying to adjust mine but don’t want to damage it!

Superb, thank you. Great tips and very well explained without any faff. 👍🏻
On my flag hinge there is up/down adjustment through a cap on the top, when is that required to adjust?

I have the same problem but my door has four hinges, not three. What would you recommend for how many turns to adjust each hinge?
Unfortunately you may need to do a bit of playing around with it. Try and stay to the same rule of "the top hinges will need to turn more than the bottom ones" but some guess work may be required. Hope this helps!

Is it normal to keep adjusting every couple of weeks if not what would be the alternative besides buying a new door? Thanks

Is it the same method for gaps at the top of door , min close ok without catching but there's a small gap at the top letting light and cold air through 😑
Yes, exactly the same, just don't over-do it to a point where your door won't close anymore.
Have managed to adjust door to close (it was sticking at the bottom lock side) but now cannot lift handle to lock.

It's just a temporary job until he needs to save a relegation threatened club!
