This video was so confusing. He definitely knows his stuff,, but maybe not well enough to explain it so anybody can understand. The beauty of doing things live. I know. So much clearer when you’re working with a script.
You can tell all the motif users went running for a motif XF by the way the used prices for them are off the charts right now. I expected to gel right into this one because the motif is my comfort zone, and I expected a sequencer. I was crushed when I realized there was no sequencer on it. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about the upgrade but damn, man! Big learning curve!
Yamaha have some voodoo or something because I own a Yamaha Modx and Yamaha H8's. I only went to the shop for milk 😂 NASA said if you can work a Yamaha keyboard you're guaranteed a job a with us no application needed. You just need to show them how to work one and you're hired. 😂
Please just make the onboard sequencer be like your mobile sequencer app! That app is amazing. The layout and the flow is already perfect there. All it needs is a set list function, bigger play buttons, (section and pattern play) and integration with Montage and ModX. The sounds are killer. That’s all it has to be.
I find my MotifXF is so much more useful than my MODX8+ OMG! I hear Yamaha is going to be coming out with the new Motif XF in 2013 which will have a sequencer built in and all kinds of cool drum loops already programmed and ready to jam to. No more having to create your own lame loops from scratch! Only problem is that it takes two people to move it, and makes gigging really a drag. Too bad I don't have the get up and go I did when I was taking my CS-80, Rhodes 88 and Hammond with the Leslie out on gigs.
Love my Korg Kronos tho. It might not sound quite as good - but almost and it's more like the MotifXF - Look at a set list on a Kronos and you see the design superiority put into perspective immediately - am I missing something?
A song from Scandal called 'Goodbye To You' has a beginning bass sequence with the following chords (Am, D, F#, E). I need to make that into a sequence or a arpeggio where I can either hold the chord (preferred) or at least one key. Any idea how to do this?
Hi all! I have some nice custom made wave files that can perfectly loop. Now I want to import them as new wave files into the montage and trigger them from the keyboard. It all works fine, using a init drum part, or init awm. but it looks like each time the sample stops after one run. How can I tell the Montage to loop the wave file?
looks like the Motif XF was far more capable and intuitive than the MODX. everytime I gather up courage to buy the MODX, I come right back after seeing the messed up UI 😢
Yep I agree. I'm more of a fan of the Motif ES ...way easier to get around than the Montage n MODX ...Takes a steep learning curve IF you could be even bothered to spent the time setting it up. I have the Montage, the Motif ES and the SY77 and the Montage is great for sounds, but a big miss when it come to speed setting it up.
I have the MODX and enjoy playing it and creating compositions with it! It does require some practice and patience to learn the sequential logic of many of the functions, but I have found that after practicing many of the various functions, the UI and the functions soon enough become second-nature to use and I might add...well worth it. Keep in mind that any sophisticated synthesizer, including the MOTIF ES, is going to present a similar learning curve, the difficulty of which depends upon one's knowledge and experience using synthesizers. Blake's instructional videos are excellent to learn from.
How are they outputting that keyboard screen like that? At first I thought it was just an overhead camera... But when he touches the screen his finger never pops up on the camera ...
Love the sounds of the montage... However, for one sound to be split up over as much as FIVE tracks is just such a stupid architecture for a sequencer to handle makes absolutely no sense. Better NOT to have a sequencer at all. But today, is it that in order to sell, it HAS to have a sequencer (no matter how combobulated) included? Just awkward and plain dumb. Would have sold more units if this had a rack version like the SY series had done.
The software with this Montage/Modx sometimes feels like a beta version, it's very unintuitive and clunky and what's disappointing is that Yamaha chosen to not to put at least a basic full midi sequencer with the software that is inside the machine (and not just this pattern 🌈sequencer) . They are just doing what other large corporations are doing and that's purposely leaving things out so you have to buy other things on top of it even if it costed thousands of dollars.
@woody forrest Theres no real editing power. PLUS you have to deal with certain sounds (that as for one patch) can take up four sequence tracks. Love the sounds... but the sequencer is just awkward.
@@wilcandou The "Sequencer" is not intended for primary, final or intensive editing. Send the MIDI files from your Patterns recorded in the Sequencer directly to the DAW (Cubase for example). The DAW is where the majority of editing should be done. "MODX Connect" can also be used to load the MIDI files into the DAW.
This incremental post-release feature roll-out is just too much. This is pattern patchwork. A fully-functional sequencer designed up-front should have been included in MODX 1.0. The terminology is getting very overloaded. What I would have called a "song" or a "sequence" is instead "a pattern with scenes with tracks containing note and control data linked to a performance." Simple and intutitive? To the programmers, maybe. On the UI side, instead of "Kbd Ctrl" how about "Rec" for the row label showing which tracks will be recorded, and instead of a green and white keyboard icon, how about red "On" and green "Off"? Simple and intuitive. I am not a Montage/MODX owner (yet). The lack of a sequencer was an initial dealbreaker. I'm on the sidelines now waiting for the dust to settle to see where this sequencer implementation ends up.
why it has to be so Not intuitive so complicated..?i have to be a rocket scientist to be able to make a song with 4 scenes on modx...and then another degree to be able to delete the scenes....so frustrating...too bad..modx is an amazing synth....please make much better simpler sequencer...
It is so sad that yAMaha can do just one minute videos about such an elaborate instrument there are videos made by simple people more elaborate on youtube this is not the way to sell confidence to your new clients, that you cannot do some tutorials for your modx even Casio did a very best campaign in explaining how to use his product ctx one's, maybe you get an example

Thanks for explaining the difference between scenes in performance/record mode.
Hey man. This is one of the best tutorials yet. I'm going to look at some in the past that I've missed. Thanx !
Been using the sequencer and loving it! Look forward to more in depth . Can you copy measures from one track to another?
Can't believe work made me miss the Livestream... Keep up the good work!
Can you please walk us through how to save the User Pattern you created with those 4 tracks? Struggling with my MODX6+!! Thanks in advance 🙏🙏

Nice demo. Would have been good to see you correct that first note in that guitar lead part.
If this keyboard had midi piano roll, and screen midi edit, it would destroy the competition for sure.
This video helps a lot. Thx!
I loves how you tickle them ivories.
WOW. Fantástic vid!!! The volume however, is a bit low. Can you adjust this in a follow up vid?

What’s the name of the app?
@@1face Yamaha mobile sequencer
Can you use the app to trigger phrases within the Yamaha boards?
They haven't updated that app in forever....
@@JuliusDeBerryJr what I know is it can use the built in sounds of the sequencer in the keyboard via midi
Workstation sequencers have been around since 1980s, was it so hard to include a proper sequencer??
I wish they would include the phrase sequencer from the qy700 with touchscreen. That would be a killer feature.
How did you film the screen? is it possible to plug Montage into a larger monitor?
Key on start - great feature. Please add it to Midi song recorder

and the action of the MODX8+ is bad - Why? Yamaha - you have to be kidding.
Kudos on the lightweightedness tho!
But my Previa88 has better action and is lighter :(

Sir please help me to make slide and glide type tones in Yamaha montage
Can i load patterns that i made in motif xs7 (with wave backing tracks in it) into the montage?

Is step sequencing an option at all?

i think its connected to a pc, and since its montage (m) it comes with software for pc. modx(+) does not. but, im not sure.
How to export pattern?
what a beautiful perf!! can you send it?
How is it that Yamaha sequencers are worse now than they were on 90's gear like the SY and EX keyboards?
no step sequencer...I think Montage developers can implement it.
