If Jonah wants to know the physics of how a generator works its basically just magnets and copper wire. When you rotate a conductive metal inside an electromagnetic field it induces an electric current in that metal.
Inside the alternator is a Rotor which has a big coil of copper wire. The diesel engine spins the rotor inside the Stator which has a bunch of very strong magnets. As that big coil of wire spins inside the magnetic field of those magnets an electric current is created in the wire, thus making electricity.
my Dad helped me make a motor generator with magnets and copper wire when I was Jonah's age for my 4th grade Science project! That's one way to learn and develop an understanding how it generates electricity! Wow that brings back memories (my father passed away 1 yr ago, he reached 100 yo!)

I've serviced and used Cummins generators from Cummins Northwest for close to 30 years. Good products, great service. We used them as back up power at our pumping stations. Those stations are the heart of my hometown flood control and sewage systems. Footnote- my hometown had an elevation of 7 feet above sea level and was on the confluence of two rivers that emptied into the Pacific Ocean. That meant we HAD to have power, no excuses. Just like hospitals and jails, nobody wants to close down a flood control or sewage pumping stations. There were nights, and days, during power outages that all I did was make sure our pumping stations were running. I did not need to worry about those generators.
Just keep them topped off...

With so many sunny days in your part of the country...hope to hear one day that you've covered your roofs with solar panels to add to your "insurance"....when fuel may be an issue. Keep up the good example for us all! And that rain will clean your PVs! Ha, ha. We do love our Onan generator on our trailer. It's been a workhorse and 100% RELIABLE!

He bought his first truck last year - spent the whole summer taking it apart and putting it back together - and chatting to this mama about the amazing attributes of the Cummins engine!
I had a generac16 kw natural gas generator installed about 2 and a 1/2 years ago. One of the best buys ever for the home. It kicks in about 5 to 8 seconds after power Don,t need it a lot, but when you do it is invaluable. Big reason for buying it is my elderly mom. She is on oxygen and can,t easily leave the home in an extended outage. It gives a lot of peace of mind in an interruption of power.
Glad you got a Cummins, as an commercial/ industrial electrician and previous military electrician Cummins is one of the best you can get not just quality but replacement parts/ tech reps/ availability of anything you need they are the best.

We use Cummins generators as backups for our sewerage pumping stations. Great reliability, and great service! Some have been in service for over 30 years!

We live in an area with no back up power and running a restaurant -- 8 hours is our limit and they used to dedicate one day a year they turned the power off to do updates/repairs on the main line (the ONLY line) of power that supplies our whole county. We have brown-outs ALL THE TIME! So I'm so excited to see this generator coming to you so you have the support keeping all your freezers running and prevent food loss!

Justin just make sure you have a way of draining the condensation off the fuel during the winter once a week and you will never have a problem I use them on boats down here and I have to trust them with my crews life so that's where I'm at with this this is a real blessing brother

If you build a walk-in freezer you will save a ton of money on Electric bills. vrs powering 9 home freezers. Have sow the land build it for you and buy a commercial compressor freezer to cool it.

What a blessing! Cummins is a great company! During the blizzard of '93 in Alabama, we got 13 inches of snow, were without electricity for 13 days, almost froze to death and realized that we needed a generator!
This is the best part of my day, sitting here on my couch watching you and your family live the utopian lifestyle, while I sit here and dream about my own homestead.

We have a home generator over here in Pasadena, Texas. But we are hooked to natural gas here in the city. It’s truly a blessing to having one of these. When it’s 100 degrees and pouring humidity and lights go out, it’s awesome we can have air condition plus anything else we need. You are going to love it!

Excited to learn more about Cummins generators! I’m in rural Maine and blizzards/nor’easters knock out my power for about a week at a time on average twice a year for the past few years... we had a spring blizzard this year right after I put half a pig in the freezer- all I can say is thank god it snowed because I was packing coolers of meat with snow to keep them frozen!

Was very impressed with your article or blog on installing your generator. I wondered many many times why you didn’t have a generator because if any of those freezers went out you lose a lot of work and investment but I’m so happy to see that when you do things you really do it right

I wonder if a commercial freezer would be cheaper to buy/run then 10 stand up freezers?
I would assume so as long as you factor in a certain amount of capacity being use. This way you can adjust the capacity you are powering.

I’m a big fan of Cummins! I’ve been driving a Cummins Turbo Diesel school bus for almost 15 years. Extremely reliable (that’s saying a lot when it comes to school buses! 🤣), and when we have to send a bus out, we pretty much always get it back and on the road quickly. Curious: Have you considered solar with deep cycle batteries on top of the new generator? Certainly room for a ground mounted system with all your land, and it would pay for itself in around 7-10 years, then your electricity would be free after that. Just a thought. Loving your videos! I just purchased my third freezer yesterday. I sure could use a generator, so I entered. This is something we need to look into because we DO get snow (although we have only lost power a couple of times in 16 years.) So happy you got your daddy mammoth set; can't wait til you get it up and running.

I personally would have chest freezers uprights are bit easier to organize but every time you open the door the cold falls out where chest freezer will hold tbe cold

I know y’all don’t want to can, but power outage or freezer failure is the reason I started learning canning this year. I can do emergency two day canning sessions and save all or most of it. Oh and I love your cold room!
