Good recipe Katie nice and straight forward, thank you. I used semi skimmed milk but will use full fat next time to make it creamier but it turned out very well 😊
Eek! I looked for how to make custard because I've been watching a lot of cooking shows lately and I feel like I stumbled on a celebrity's channel because I loved you on Britain's Best Home Cook 😆 great job, thank you ♡
@@KatieHomeCook Ah yes, I can see how that would be an 'issue'. I have the same problem with my wife scrubbing my cast iron pans. 😮💨 I use a heavy bottom stainless steel risotto pan on a low heat for custard. Thin pan bottoms tend to burn custard I find.
My Mum made me some crumble but I don't have anything to go with it so this is perfect! Can I use whole eggs instead? I don't really have any use for the whites and would hate to waste them. Thanks for the recipe!
My mother would make a meringue in a fancy aluminum tin with peaks. Piece of meringue, custard, strawberries from a tin(freezer section of market, and whipped cream on top. The whites would be put to use, straight away, that way.
Thank you for the recipe, I have never made a custard from scratch. Could you please tell how long to whisk the eggs for? Does the custard have eggy flavor?
I just made it and it reminded me of my childhood in England. I even made an apple crumble to go with it. Honestly I could eat it all by itself. Thank you for making my life better. Can’t get tins or powdered custard here in Louisiana

Great recipe. So easy to follow. Tastes amazing!!
So glad you like it!
I made the custard and it was lovely and creamy and so easy. Thanks for the tutorial.

That’s so lovely of you to say! Let me know how the custard turns out for you 😊
you're a gem Katie, awesome custard!
Top tip, I always use a slotted flat metal spatula to scrape the bottom of the pan constantly to check it isn't sticking.
Hubby tells me off for using metal, I lost so many non stick pans like that, so wood or rubber for me these days

No I wouldn’t recommend it, just the yolks, you could freeze the whites in a zip lock bag, until you have a use?
Just fry the egg white for good source of protein 😊

I love meringue!
nice, simple, perfect. (just would pour through a strainer before sending it back into the pot to thicken)
Sounds like it might have curdled for you, try adding the milk slower! Glad you liked it though 😊😊
@@KatieHomeCookis that the only thing that will cause it to curdle?
@@need4speeed992 should be, if you add the milk too fast it cooks the eggs to fast, almost like scrambling them
@@KatieHomeCook thank you. I like to have a troubleshoot before I try 😂
Thank you for the recipe, I have never made a custard from scratch. Could you please tell how long to whisk the eggs for? Does the custard have eggy flavor?
If it before the milk just until you form a paste, and no eggy taste, all custard is made with eggs

This is really useful; thank you
Glad you like it!! 😊
Like her recipes she just gets on with the recipe not too much talking.
Can you make this custard the day before and reheat?
Yeah, but it does thicken up a lot when it cools 😊
Watching from Pontypridd and giving you a big thumb up. Guessing with that accent you can't be to far away 😊
No not far!! 😊🏴
Cornflour is not required. Use Cream, cream fats will be the thickener.
I prefer cornflour, but cream is great if it works for you ☺️
I've got no bloody cornflour so now I have to walk to the shops!!!
Oh no! 🙈
hi! how can I replace corn flower?
What alternatives do you have?
Mine split 😢 did I over stir or cook too long?

You could try? I’m not sure how it would taste
Any chance you can also tell us in ounces.......thanks.
Does it have to be corn flour?
Yes… it’s also called corn starch outside of the uk
@@KatieHomeCook Is there a way I don't have to use corn starch?
@@lindaslasberg you could try rice flour or plain flour but I haven’t tried those myself 😊
i used Arrowroot flour, worked just as fine, came out perfect.

I don't like the custard with egg yolks, I like the real one with custard powder.
Custard powder usually contains dry egg yolks, might want to check the packaging 😊
