Yes from what i've read the attack patterns are the same in HR but there is the additional mechanics of the crystals and the circle you have to get in so you don't get instakilled. I don't know though I haven't killed him personally in this version.

Does attack 6 have to be blocked, or can it be ducked/crouched?

You can crouch look down when in front of him and it will miss
