    We had a seimens controller on our CTX machine, we got rid of it mostly because no one in the us could service the thing. We're having a hard time getting these guys to navigate a haas controller with ngc after the older style. Don't want to confuse them anymore than we have to.

    When you work with external programming software (with lots of post-processors) it is not that important if your machine has Siemens, Fanuc or whatever programming language.
    As long the "computer on your machine" is processing quick, you will succeed.
    But, you have a point, a Siemens 840D is very smooth and friendly.

    The $60k add on for that control is a good reason. My dvf 5000 and my vcf 850lsr have fanuc 31i which is OK for what I do. The need for the other control isn't there for me to spend an extra $120k for the 2 machines

    2 questions jessie.
    one. didnt you make the vent hole before thining the wall on the od side ?
    and two. why have the machine move in x and Y with the face/shell mill wien you could just rotate the C axis ? ( im pretty sure mastercam would spit out the right rotation speed for the C axis for the surface speed to be right/the same as moveing X and Y. ) only reasons why i ask that is that in my experience its less wear on the machine ( make enought parts and it adds up ) and that it gave a even flatter part since we only moveing one linear axis and a smaller amout the mecanical error ( every machine. even high end brand new ones have some mecanical error in lineaar motion) is cut down multiple times. basicly moveing from the mecanical error of X and Y over to the error of the Z hight of the bearing in the table

    • @Jessie_Smith
      @Jessie_Smith 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      I cut the vent hole from the ID. In the video you can kindof see it cutting away the material so you can tell it is a solid piece. I originally was going to cut that hole from the OD side so I didn't have to use a long slender tool holder but that was going to force me to do it in the next op and I didn't want there to be any chance of throwing a burr on the inside that I would have to deal with.
      I certainly could have output to use the C axis for the facemill but I just didn't see the need to. It is only a roughing toolpath so no need in getting fancy with it. 3 axis mills move linearly all the time with no issues.

      @@Jessie_Smith thanks for replying. specially so quickly

  • @supremecommander2398
    @supremecommander2398 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    out of curiosity - why did you use a Ballnose endmill to rough and finish the ID? From my uneducated Perspective, that operation looked like the perfect op for a barrel-cutter with a greater stepover. Was that due to those angled through-holes "bumps"?
    one thing i wondered for quite a while now - do you guys have any means to heat-treat such a big part between roughing and finishing? given how much material you often remove, movement due to internal stresses is something i can't remember that you have covered it for anything but plastic parts 🤨

    I think most people find Siemens over complicated for most 3 axis machines so they go with fanuc. Then when they buy their first 5 axis they just stick with fanuc because everyone in the shop is used to it. For me i could care less for the most part on what control I use. Ive ran machines with Okuma OSP, Fanuc, Mazaks, siemens, and haas. They all have their benefits and drawbacks but they all accomplish the same thing at the end of the day.

    • @Jessie_Smith
      @Jessie_Smith 8 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the feedback. I am similar in that I have ran a ton of different controls as well. Walking up to a Siemens with zero knowledge of it and trying to hit buttons did make it seem more complicated to me but it was because I had been fanuc/mazatrol/haas/milltronics/fadal etc my whole career until that point. Once I actually got some valuable training on the Siemens control I fell in love and haven't looked back since.

    would love siemens control but most machines in stock just have fanuc loaded on it. unless I want to order a brand new machine and wait months for them to build it, typically the machines that are in stock have fanuc. Kinda sucks for the resale market as well, most used machines will come with fanuc and having to swap out to siemens makes little sense. hopefully the industry adopts this control a bit more here in the states
