This worked with Saffire pro 40 i can confirm i just tried now and at first the saffire software was still telling me that i sud update even tho its 3.7 installed but i went into sounds and did some settings on the bit quality and now its working
No problem shouldnt be any reason why it shouldnt work and should be same on other models using same software. Alot of 56 versions are going cheap on ebay as most people dont realise its an easy fix
@@paddypage I installed windows 10 Build 1809 today the saffire pro software is telling me to go download latest software when 3.7 is the latest But I'll try your idea and come give a feedback I'll be so glad if this works
@@JohnsonkeyzMusicAcademy Yes install old saffire version first copy firmware file for 40, remove software then install new version and over write file with old firmware and u should be fine. Just do exactly whats in this video and you should be ok. You dont need to be on older version of Windows 10 i'm on 22H2 and never have any issues. Let me know how you get on?
Good afternoon, where can I buy a FireWire 9 pin USB adapter? I tried the Ferevere 400 cable directly to USB, but it doesn’t connect; I don’t have the connector for IEE 1394 800 on the computer
Dont think you can get firewire to usb, as firewire transfers data at higher speed than USB 2.0. You can get firewire to thunderbolt but you would need to do your own research
I tried this and it worked but, You cant play windows audio out of this saphire56. Also allowed me to set the controls and make it possible to use the saphire offline as a mixer. also VLC and media player no longer function with this on and connected. But Thanks for these tips. I thought my saphire was totally lost.
Thats prob just your settings as mine works fine on everything, you might need to check your sound settings. I also disable my pc's built in soundcard but dont really need to do this plus my monitors sound too
Hi Paddy Page, Thank you for your video. I hope I can use this. I am currently using a macbook from 2008 with firewire connexion to use my focusrite saffire liquid 56. It works fine but the computer is so old that I think its time to invest in something more modern. Unfortunately all laptops now don't have a firewire port. Therefore I am not sure what I have to do to get my focusrite working on a modern win10 laptop. I have seen there are adapters in the market but I am also not sure what to buy or I donlt know if it will work. Could you maybe help me with this please?
I work in IT, I would avoid buying laptop if you can and get pc. As too many issues can arise from laptops i.e. broken screens, chargers etc plus they are not as powerful, and pc's are easier to upgrade. You can buy firewire card from ebay and follow instructions in this video and you shouldnt have any issues. Top spec laptops usually cost £1-5k which are very good laptops but with that sort of money you could get very high spec pc which will last you for along time. You can also get firewire adapters to usb which I have saw on youtube but not tried them as dont need too
@@paddypage thank you so much for your answer. It doesn’t have a FireWire port tho. Is it possible to just get a FireWire card for cheap?
Yes just check your motherboard depending on how old it is, its likely to be PCIE then just buy one off ebay for about £10 if you have enough free slots available. Official firewire cards which are startech are about £30-40 but I have cheap firewire card and startech and both work fine anyway@@chrisdrummer86
@@paddypage i bought a firewire pci express card and followed your instructions. generally it works like that, the only problem is, from time to time it suddenly crashes and mix control says there's no connection anymore. i always have to restart the computer, which is kind of annoying. do you have any idea what it could be? do think think there's a problem with the card or do you think it's more of a software based problem?

It might be because your using adapters as you dont usually get firewire on Windows laptops actually I dont think I have ever saw firewire on Windows laptops. My firewire is working fine on Win 10 22H2 through firewire direct from PCIE card but using PC not laptop. On some laptops you can get addin cards for firewire but they would be old and probably wont have slot on your laptop
