@@yeshwanthreddy8494 It wasn't to inspire people. It was for motivating himself, not to overcome the pain but to not let the governor take advantage of his pain and suffering, which are meant to be in the service of his motherland. The lyrics are very clear on this, at least in the Telugu version. He doesn't want even his pain and suffering to help the aggressors against his motherland. So he imagines his land, forest, and ancestors singing to him that even his flesh and blood are meant to be in the service of his motherland and that if he let's the aggressors take advantage of that, he isn't a true son of the land

@@tombhayya2164 I agree with you, but there is also one more thing implied there, the song that came out of his pain has inspired the ppl who are watching.
Some times we don't have to do big things, making the other person feel the pain we do with same depth is enough for them to get motivated. That is what that seen does.
That is what he does, he expressed his pain and motivation for not bending his legs with a song. And the song captures his emotion and delivers it to ppls heart that are watching there ( along with the audience) and they felt the pain with same intensity as Bheem is feeling. That is where all the rage has come from in that group. every wipe lash is touching the ppls heart with that song.

I think the reason why jaby didn’t like the “torture” song scene is coz i think its hard for americans to relate emotional music in drama scenes.
Atleast for indians an emotional scene feels alot lore intense when music adds to it. The anxiety levels vary when you watch an india. Drama with and without music.

Bhagat Singh, a widely respected revolutionary, was singing "mera rang de basanti chola"(paint my clothes in the color of sacrifice) as he was being walked to the gallows. Since singing is typically associated with happy careless moods, a fighter singing as being walked to his death became symbol of fearless resistance. I think Komaram Bhim singing while being tortured is heavily influenced by Bhagat Singh's imagery.

    Jaby: The whip scene:
Achara got the point to some extent, The song has a g8 meaning tied to the situation. Bheem is in a g8 pain and knows what kind of more torture he will be bearing BUT HIS ULTIMATE MOTTO IS NEVER KNEEL AT ANY COST. So he is motivating himself by singing a song remembering where he was born, how he was brought up in his GOND tribe for these kind of tough situations and pleads the nature to give him strength, TO NOT JUST BEAR THE PAIN BUT NEVER GIVE UP AND HOLD HIS STRENGTH TO NOT KNEEL. HE DID IT AND THAT STARTED THE REVOLT AMONG THE PEOPLE THERE.
That's what RAM realizes later that Bheem is able to inspire and bring revolution among ppl by a SONG rather using GUNS in everyone's hand which was RAMS Ideology.
    NON-VIOLENCE vs VIOLENCE.
Also IMP thing, His motive is not to Revolt ppl. He is a tribal guy his only motive in the film was to take her sister safely back to her Mom without compromising his tribe values & his self esteem.
There is a deep thought and emotion tied to this scene. Most of the times Emotions & Motivations are expressed through songs in Indian cinema. It CONNECTS & EMOTES PPL here. You can compare this scene to Brave Heart 'Mel Gibson's Fateful event at the end'.

    • @itzasigza7753
      @itzasigza7753 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

No, it wasn't non-violence vs violence because, the end goal was to make the people fight, either with or without weapons, but with violence. The film at no point argues for non-violence.
It is more of means vs results, Ram was focused on the means, which is the arms and Bheem, on the result, which is the fight itself.
Even more elaborate explanation would be the numbers. Ram, with all the weapons he could procure, might only make the people that are armed, fight while Bheem, with his stubbornness and sheer will, might inspire innumerable people to fight.
Non-violence may give you a moral high ground and bragging rights when things are settled, but that's the thing, things may not settle until the answer for violence is violence.

Poland didn't even exist on the world's map for 123 years but still our ancestors managed to preserve the Polish language and culture. Then we gained our independence but only for a very short period of time because WWII began and we were attacked by both Germany and Russia.. :( So as a person whose country was oppressed in the past I could feel with my whole heart the bravery of Bheem who didn't want to kneel in front of the aggressor. And I was thinking about all those brave people who fought for our countries' independence (both Polish and Indian) while watching the scene and I couldn't stop my tears... I felt so grateful that thanks to those heroes I can live in a free country now. That flogging scene was simply perfect.. the music and the touching lyrics only made it more emotional... It broke my heart into pieces but was also so inspiring... And at the end when Bheem falls and the people start screaming and attack the British - GOOSEBUMPS!

The song at the flogging scene is actually his singing it to endure the torture. The tune is a part of their life, we hear the tune in the very first shot of the film which pretty much induces it into the narrative. And then Bheem sings it to his captured sister to calm her down with modified poetry according to the context. It's a very well written mainstream Indian cinematic moment. And the crowd breaks into a riot partly from the lyrics and partly from just the visual coz it happens in Delhi and the song is in Telugu, we cannot assume everyone in the crowd understands the lyrics unless it's a Telugu speaking person. It's mostly a reaction to the torture and violence.

The main intention behind the scene was Raam realising that bheem can move and inspire people with him emotional dialogue and persistance. This wouldn't work if the scene was the way you wanted it to be.
TWO, the charecter bheem was based on a mythelogical figure who was well known for his extreme physical strength and particularly endurance.

The song part. I agree completely with achara. In olden days and according to a lot of stories, the most used way to inspire people to rise against oppression during the british rule was using songs. So, the song serves a dual purpose of him trying to get through his pain when he is being whipped while also serving as an inspiration for people around him to not kneel down. If you read the translation of the lyrics , its him asking the land ,water and nature that nurtured him to give him strength to withstand this pain and not let him kneel down. In the end of the song , there is a line which loosely translates to " I am giving my life to this land but I am not letting my mother earth down".
Now to the point of friendship between the two guys . I didnt find it homoerotic at any point but maybe it is the cultural acceptance of male friendship and the expression of friendly love that is a lil different.

There are many Indians like now in the British period who are as white as any foreigner. Its a shame Jaby that even though u are doing Indian content for so long you still don't know that Indians are mixed in colour with light skinned Indians and brown skinned existing together. Music and other art forms like dramas etc.. played a very very huge role in Indian independence struggle. On many levels music and lyrics have been the social bond between all classes of people at that time period!
The transformation of Ram's destiny because of this one ballad is actually something that is a pretty common story element used in Indian movies.

Just wanna say about the time duration when both times ramcharan recovered quickly, yes from the actual movie length view it seemed reeally quick, but in actuallity if you think about it, from the time bheem left him on bed and prepared to invade the british party couldve been a span of several hours, but to us we are ovipusly shown those scenes quickly, same with the forest scene, the guy may have been looking around for stuff for a while before finding that water well, but oviously they cant show us in the running time of the movie, thats what i beliebe rajamouli had in mind

    • @Prasad-sh8ed
      @Prasad-sh8ed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

True… thats why directors struggle to make good movies in short duration… they need two parts to actually digest the emotions and explain logical flow. This movie at least required another one hour… (I think they chopped close to 50 min as this is a single movie)

❤️ your reviews Jaby. The song is what elevated the scene for us Jaby. The independence struggle of India had its spread in those times because there are ballads, songs and poetry about the sacrifices of heroes of freedom struggle. So, I appreciate the thought of filling it with more emotional scene.. but it is catered to more Indian audience being 130 crore and all 😂.

Hi Jaby, with so much of meat running around, wild animals are not focus driven to open a car door for Jenny. Apart from lockign her in car, what else can be done on that wide ground with animals running around & no where to hide? She bumped into him by surprise as he was expecting her to be in palace with rest of those British family. That was the qiuckest way he could come up with. Also, Jenny shown plans to aid Bheem's personal cause to rescue his friend , not to betray her family. Also, she has been harboring positive feelings towards him & watch him undergo public lashing by that spiked belt thrown in by her aunt definitely might have broke her heart & instigated cold feelings towards her aunt & uncle. Others in this comment section corrected other things you and Achara brought up. My main issue is "Rapid Recovery". Bheem told that Rama will be recovered by morning. How did Rama gained such a vigor in short time to punch holes in walls while antivenom is still working it's way in his body. Also, how come he is able to move with ease shortly after Bheem applies herbs to his knees. This is my only issue with movie.

One thing that you guys should understand about the movie: Even if it's fictional, even if it's larger than life for real-life characters, even if there are mind-blowing scenes, the movie did well at the box office also because of the emotion it carried. You, Jaby, may not have felt the pain when Bheem was whipped, partly because you may not relate yourself with the atrocities of the British over its colonies, and particularly India, so you may not have been hit with the same intensity as an Indian would have felt.

Back in those times one of the ways to fight against British people includes folklore songs..particularly tribals..The little girl also sings from the beginning and bheem also sings to his sister when he met her 1st time to console her.. it's not an all of a sudden song..so to console,to empathise,to rise,to lit the inner dormant revolutionary aspect from the people, song is the perfect choice for that situation...For u(jaby)it might b a song bt for us(including Achara)the entire song is an emotional ride..if u look at the lyrics u'll definitely understand the pain..If u look at the lyrics Bheem is motivating himself not to give up and kneel and simultaneously inspiring everyone including Ram..

This movie needed to be a two part thing for sure. More time for Alia's character so she wasn't just a little five scene cameo, more time for the bromance to build outside of the montage, flashback for Bheem, focused song for Raju (maybe one he used to sing with his family or tribe or a song for him and Sita so he gets the same connection shown to them as Bheem to his tribe?), more threat from the villains, more time with the love interest Jenny.
The lack of time is literally the only thing I truly dislike about this film because it would have elevated the amazing movie that was already there even higher by eliminating all of the issues in those areas.

Few easter eggs and fun facts of RRR:
    1) When bahubali was released many people began to nitpick about small things in the movie, they began to look for flaws, one such flaw which was pointed out by many people is the iconic scene where prabhas makes the huge jump in the waterfall, many pointed out that he should take a run up to make such a huge jump, instead he just jumps from the edge, thats the reason y in RRR When ram and bheem meet for the 1st time, to rescue the kid under the bridge while they jump down the bridge they take a run up in rajamouli style with a horse n a bike🤣🤣 guess what rajamouli learns from his mistakes, even in the same scene we can see ram charan takes a flag dips it in the water n makes it wet before he throws it to jr NTR, so that when jr NTR wraps it around it won't catch fire 🔥🔥... The imagination n brilliance of rajamouli sir🔥🔥 Respect👍👍
    2) Unlike many other indian movies which involve english actors, in RRR we find the performances of english actors far better, that's because rajamouli approached professionals, the one who played Scott is "Ray Stevenson" one who acted in "Thor" movies, one who played lady Scott is "Alison doody" the lead actress from indiana jones....
    3) The sets u can see in nacho nacho song, the palace behind is actually President's palace in Ukraine..After finishing the movie n returning to india, war was started in ukraine....
    4) When ram captures bheem's clan member, he catches a snake n attacks ram even though he is tied, that man catching the snake is justified coz they r gond tribals, they know everything abt every animal, how to trap and catch them, n how to treat animal attacks using natural ayurvedic remedies, since they were born n brought up in jungle along with those animals n plants, that's how even jr NTR is able to tame n control the animals during interval sequence....
    5) That song jr NTR sings while being whipped "komaram bheemudo", few non indian abd north indian audience may find the song lil distasteful because they r unaware of the importance of the song, the gond tribe (the telangana people) who faced many tortures under the nijam rule, hv developed a habit of singing folklore songs explaining their pain n oppression for years, these songs kind of made those people stronger n revolt against nijams, similarly at the end of the song people revolt, even now a days these songs r famous in Telangana area, we andhra n telangana people r familiar with such songs, but north indian n non indian audience may not hv any idea abt it, even the song komaram bheemudo was written by one of the famous revolutionary singer from telangana area, if u concentrate on the lyrics of the song we can feel the oppression his people r facing....
    6) the subtext or easter egg about the "Barbed whip" that lady scott threw to torture jr NTR is that in the climax when the Scott's empire blows up when lady scott died we can see her body hanging in "Barbed wires" implying that she finally got what she deserved.... "karma is a bitch"🤭🤭🤣
    7) near the climax when jr NTR knocks on the floor to find ram who was imprisoned in the ground, he actually knocks the same beats of Nacho Nacho song, so that only ram charan could recognise it's him rather than other possible prisoners, ram charan also reciprocates by knocking the same beat of nacho nacho, even in the earlier scene when ram charam is bit by snake he plays the same beats to communicate with jr NTR, the cinematic brilliance of rajamouli for using a song in so many ways giving easter eggs all the way around is lit🔥🔥🔥 hatsoff to rajamouli 🙏
    8) the scene about bheem carrying ram in the climax sequence may seem a bit overemphasized, but even earlier in the film in dosti song there was a shot giving easter eggs, where we can see jr ntr doing squats on the ground lifting ram charan, then ram charan does pull ups holding a tree branch, this way rajamouli is planting an idea subconsciously to his audience that jr ntr got lower body strength n ram charan got upper body strength... So that audience get convinced during the climax scene where bheem carries ram... Even the scene seems physically impossible, rajamouli never hesitates to show his ideas n imaginations in the most convincing way possible, that scene may be impossible but u could never find any other director pulling of such a scene in any film like rajamouli... Respect....
    9) The same way In climax fight sequence bheem lifting a bike looks over the top for sure, but do u know those bikes were actually used during second world war time so that in any unforeseen situation during war the soldiers can actually carry the bikes, those bikes weight around 55kgs only, i agree that even 55 kg bike travelling at 50kmph velocity is difficult to be lifted... But look at the way it was imagined, presented, picturized, the mesmerising cinematography in that scene, the kind of goosebumps it gave us, we should watch the movie for its epicness, rather than being nitpicky about everything....
    10) At the climax that transformation of ram charan🔥🔥, many people thought that was sree ram's avatar, there r mythological references to the movie for sure but its not just sree ram's avatar, its actually the original look of Alluri seeta rama raju (the freedom fighter ram charan was playing), alluri seeta rama raju in history was well learnt man who wears those kashayam clothes fights with bow n arrows, probably the best archer india has ever had, he fought against britishers he got weapons n guns by attacking police stations n british camps, he used the same weapons to attack britishers with his trusted men... Even he was shot dead by britishers in the freedom struggle... Legend says that britishers put around 100 bullets in his body n ruthlessly killed him... At the end of the film rajamouli showed ram n bheem in their original looks ram wearing kashayam clothes, with long hair n beard, bheem with a pagdi on his head n those clothes gond people used to wear...
    11) the final RRR fact, For the interval sequence with animals rajamouli shot for around 65 nights, each night they spent around 75lakhs for the shoot itself... In that interval sequence they had to imagine animals were there n fight accordingly, for that to happen n so that each n every background artist to be in sync with the CG animals rajamouli employed different tactics while shooting which were not even used in Hollywood movies,
    a) for bear they used a person wearing green blanket, since the movement of bear is slow similar to a human being...
b)For shots with tiger, tiger moves much faster than humans, so they can't just place a human with green blanket, so rajamouli positioned laser lights following the head position of the tiger, so that camera man n actors can imagine the position of tiger n act accordingly.
    c) for wolves they used dogs which were trained to catch a ball, while shooting the sequence they randomly throw the balls in middle of men, so the dogs chase the balls, in that way rajamouli captured peoples reactions to wolves, later on during CG he replaced the dogs with wolves...
    d) for other fast moving animals like deers, they used remote controlled cars moving in between the actors....

I get why you would have a problem with the song where he was tortured and why wasn't he screaming in pain .
But the song is actually about him accepting that after this torture he will probably die and he is singing how nature has given him birth and made him strong and brave and now he is ready to die and return to his soil.
