I’m a Maori from NZ, but I grew up a South African fan. These giant white guys would show up on our shores and tear us a new one every time they toured. So I loved them, and have been lucky to meet a lot of former and current Bokkies players. I had the good fortune of meeting John Smit at Twickenham. He was the nicest bloke you could hope to meet. Went to school with John Smit at PBHS and what a true gentlemen he is, never had an attitude about anything or anyone just a pleasant person to be around..
Jerry took the springboks apart every time. I was a huge fan of his tough style of play. It's also interesting to see how the laws of the game because in today's game he would get sent off 90% of time for dangerous tackles.
