Rob Sambles Photo great vid. It’s always it and miss like you say. But when you nail it, it’s totally worth it. Good luck tonight. I’m at Charlton Athletic tonight.
Rob, I have been through hours of trial and error on goal cams, mostly because of radio interference and the camera not firing. I now use a second pocket wizard plus iii in repeater mode set up 8 or 10 feet above the ground, plus I use a backlight stand to elevate the receiver to about 3 feet. A push to talk switch hooked to my monopod makes it so I can fire from that trigger, instead of every time I press the shutter button. My success rate is well below 1%. I've gotten some okay ones, but am still waiting for that killer shot. Great video, as always!
Been a footy snapper for years but never tried this. I am going to when football starts again. Thanks for the advice and for the recommendation of the cheap triggers. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Rob, According to you, how to avoid a shock on the camera and/or the lens, when a player make a bad center for example? Do you know if a protection system, a cage or some kind of airbag exist for it? This is a lot of risks for the material for few positive results possible Haven't you ever had an accident with this configuration?
Hi Rob. Remotes are so frustrating, as it is 90% pot luck! On a different note, are you happy with the branded stickers you have on your gear? If so, pse could you advise where you bought these? Cheers! Nick
Hey Rob. Very useful. Just a quick question. How do you actually trigger the camera. I am aware you are you using a remote but are you placing the other trigger on the hot shoe so it fires when you camera fires? I have done this set up so that way with the trigger on the camera with my 70-200 so as I am shooting closer action the goal cam is firing. Problem there is that its not doing the full frames per second on the goal cam and also I end up with 1000's of pics of the goal keeper just stood there. Is that the nature of this sort of thing. I cant really see a way where I can have a camera + 300mm, camera + 70-200 and be holding a remote trigger as well.
I fired it from the hotshoe of my camera with the 70-200. When I do trigger it handheld use my left hand that's supporting my monopod. Some people use a fancy foot pedal thing
So who's had success with this? I'm trying again on Wednesday night at Fulham v Millwall.. fingers crossed!

@@michaelblum3973 Interested in that push to talk trigger setup you've done. That could work well
Keep the honesty going, show the not so prefect stuff which in turn will give encouragement to newer sports photographers

Another really informative video Rob, thank you. Really like your authenticity and honesty.
