My favorite Stratocaster mod! One thing I have noticed is that it *does change the sound of the other pickup settings when the blender knob is being used. It takes some of the 'bite' off the other pickup settings when engaged, this is not necessary a bad thing although I always keep the blend knob on 10 when not using it. I have found that I also like this anomaly when doing certain things. Subtle but definitely there.
I've been messing around with a strat knockoff trying to wire three volumes with no switch. Just for laughs, not for anything serious. But this setup looks a lot better. I hardly ever use the tone knobs, so I'll give this a shot! Thanks for the video.
if your pots are both grounded by the pick guard shied And a ground wire, then isn't that a ground loop ? i learned to ground everything just once, and to one spot, and it seems to knock back the noise.
I paid $40 for a Japanese vintage Strat with a solid swamp ash husk and solid one piece roasted flaming neck and the electronics are the highest quality I have ever seen because each pickup is shielded with a plate of sheet metal steel and it is thick metal and the noise is none! The Feedback and distortion is zero! Eric Clampton would love this Strat because it is wired to give the bridge tone and the middle pickup has tone and the neck all three have tone! But no noise!
That metal baseplate is a common mod for single coils. It is usually seen in bridge pups, and it's used to reduce the resonant peak and achieve some more bass and middle tones.
Is there a way and a diagram to do this with a 3 position switch? I tried your blender mod, didn't sound how I wanted so I am looing for an alternative way?
Thank you sir as always love these videos!!! I think this wiring will be perfect for an upcoming project I'm planning. I want to build a hybrid Tele/Strat so I wanted to find a wiring that would get the best of both worlds and I think this wiring does that nicely!!
Great video dude! Just discovered this mod and I want it with my new pickups, but I have HSS configuration and I don't really know what pots to use, as well as wiring them.. Could I find this info somewhere?
Good video, sir! Can you use a 4 pole selector switch for this? I bought one for an old project guitar I made. I figured i can use that as long as I don't use the extra 2 poles.
Ed: you're great!!! I have an unrelated question. I am doing the 4-way mod on my Tele but I'm installing a mini humbucker in the neck at the same time. So, obviously I don't do the neck pickup cover separate ground mod but, what do I need to do instead? Or do I just wire the humbucker normally?
Would it be possible to do a video for a Telecaster with two humbuckers, a three way toggle and two volume knobs and no tone knobs so you can have one turned up and the other turned down and do the toggle switch “killswitch” trick?
Amazing video, it was really helpful. But i'm still confused how to wire mine, because i only have the 4 poles super switch, can i just use only half of it? And just leave the other half, or i have to connect it too?
This can be done with a switch rather than a blend control to keep 2 tone controls, correct? Same 2 pole 5 way switch, and a push-pull or toggle for neck on only in bridge position?
I've watched this video for the third time now. I have a question: is it possible to use this '1/4 blend' circuit WITHOUT a tone control? Would everything function the same? My guitar has only two controls total, that's why (Music Man Silhouette SSS), but I would love to have this blending option.
I'm new to modding and think I'm about to ask a dumb question. Is it possible to use the Quarter Blend mod and a TBX tone controller together. I have 2 tone controller pots and don't see how it could work but thought I'd ask. Thank you
Hello, I am about to do this mod on a new strat build. I have the 2 pole 5 way and the 250k no load pot and the wiring diagram that you and Jay have both provided. I would like to have my neck/bridge position to be in series rather than parallel. Would you have a diagram to help me accomplish that?
Hi Ed, could you substitute a push/pull switch for the no load pot in this wiring setup? I only have one Vol, one Tone (taken by a KingTone SRV switch) in the Strat I have so would like to be able to switch in the neck PU with a push/pull on the Volume. Just purchased the two pole switch off the site so hoping it is 😀 I thought maybe B5 to C1 (P/P) and 1 (P/P) to B1 would do the trick instead of the no load pot? Hope you're well. Tob
hey man would it be possible to do something similar with two pickups? for example non blended bridge oposition ,blended middle and nonblended neck position?
Its basically a Gilmour mod minus the toggle but add the blend. Also jays 3 way in-between 1/4 blend but unlink 2nd connection from 3rd connection on superswitch also unlink 8 from nine taking the middle pup out. Its pretty cool and i see now how simpler it is with the 2 pole superswitch, i wonder uf i could add a push pull dpdt as master tone and mix it up with different capacitor values but less dark if all are 500k pots, better to have it and not need it and need it and not have it.
Apologies as I’m sure you’ve answered this before but what temperature do you set your soldering iron to and do you recommend any specific shape of tip?
Hi bro long time no see im watching your video since 2017 i just dont know if you remember me haha I remember the david gilmour mod that you did about a years ago and i tried it out maybe 2017 until now still working so thanks bro
Couldn't have explained it better myself! Great vid :)
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for this bid. The best explanation I ve seen on this wiring. 👍
I have a strat that’s crying out for this!!👍🏼 can you do a Johnny Marr Jaguar wiring video in the future?
it's a really great mod - the Jaguar is on the list

Omg Ed, this is exactly why I recently ordered some stuff from Six Strings. Top man and fantastic video! 👏
Awesome! Thank you!

Thanks for the tutorial! Using this wiring for a hybrid Tele/Strat hybrid.
Thank you great video and pro soldering just did this mod on my 60s reissue strat , feels like a new guitar. Great tones. 🎸🎸😎😎❤❤
but i suppose the shielding is a ground loop, in a way, because that is sort of how it works.
Awesome ! Thank you !
Great video indeed, as always. Still waiting for the Rory Gallagher fender strat wiring mod. Greetings from Ecuador South America
Coming soon!

Is it possible to use this wiring scheme on a bridge splittable humbucker?

If it is not 4 conductor humbucker it will require surgery - but yes you would need to ensure the cover and baseplate are grounded seperately
@@SixStringSupplies Ahh same as the single-coil cover then. Thanks Ed, I know how to wire that :)
Can this be done with a HSH configuration?

that's all good - just use the two front poles and ignore the second 2 poles.
Hey mate loving your tutorials.
You don't have one for a switchcraft 12015x ?
Switch is from a gretch rally
This can be done with a switch rather than a blend control to keep 2 tone controls, correct? Same 2 pole 5 way switch, and a push-pull or toggle for neck on only in bridge position?
You have video of single humbucker one volume one tone wiring?🎉🎉
I love this mod..Now how can I disconnect the middle pickup from the master tone while keeping all the other variables? lol
Push pull switch.
I just used a no load pot for master tone.

Hey! Can I do this with my standard 5 way switch with 4 and 4 legs? Thanks!

nope - needs a dual pole switch
Can you install wiring and pickup in guitar ES-335

Or all 300k pots

360 degrees - the tip here is 2mm chisel

@@SixStringSupplies No prob bro more content to come do you have wiring off fender jazz bass?
th-cam.com/video/VGGOXm0NDKM/w-d-xo.html
Still haven't done a HSS with master volume and master tone Suhr style
It is in the next 1 or 2 videos - so should be this year!
Waiting for this
How to wire palmer bass
But - How to do it on a import 5 switch
Nice work. But no schematic with other switch.
Are you still in business ?
No don't ground pots together. Try it n see..
