Your are so gentle with the jewelry unlike some other's, that shows you love what you are doing

Thanks for the verdigris cleaning training. I hadn't seen a direct instruction for that, nor the info about it. So far, the basic info I'd heard is: nope, it's a lost cause. So it's nice to hear that maybe it can be removed. Thanks! Also, footnote: When I started selling a bunch of used, older jewelry, I looked up the best way to clean it and came up with a video from a jewelry store - they liked just warm, almost hot water, Dawn or another grease cutting soap and a new toothbrush. The thinking behind it being new is important: A used toothbrush has old toothpaste in there, even if it looks clean. And toothpaste is an abrasive. They suggested putting a tiny amount of the Dawn on the brush, dunking the piece (not pearls) and giving it a gentle scrub, then dunking or even soaking, depending on how dirty. Scrub again, dunk again, and rinse with the drain shut in case you lose a stone. Pat dry, then let air dry. I've even done this with new jewelry because it had warehouse dirt/dust. The folks that posted the video said a lot of new jewelry cleaners are super harsh, especially for vintage pieces.

Haha!! 😂 at 1:30:00 you sounded so scientific with the septum. 😆😆 So funny. I’m glad you left that in the video. Now I have to look up that word. 😆😆

I have several pieces that look like that pendant. What I have is Copal. I call it, “Baby Amber.”

Hi Angela. Regarding the great bakelite debate, my understanding is that Simichrome reacts with the surface patina of oxidation caused by years of exposure to air. Since all genuine bakelite jewellery is decades old, the pieces will all have this patina unless they’ve been thoroughly cleaned already. I remember someone on etsy was selling cleaned up bakelite and the colours were amazing but the seller warned that they would no longer react with Simichrome, although the other bakelite tests like smell and hot water should still work. That’s not to say that your piece is bakelite but it’s good to know how the test works. That necklace does look like bakelite and I think bakelite has a tacky feel. I have also tried tapping a mystery piece against other plastic pieces I own. The bakelite makes a distinctive “clunk” rather than a higher pitched “clack” sound. Sometimes it’s a gut feel thing in the end….

Thank you for the information. That is the first time i’ve ever heard that. I definitely need to do further investigating. I see a lot of people on eBay put amber/bakelite on their listing, probably because they are unsure. Great to hear from you 😊

Totally agree. And I thought Bakelite from first sight. We’ll see 😁

Love that piece at 7:43! ❤❤❤
Also, can you share the maker of your polishing cloth? It looks really nice. I tried the newer microfiber polishing cloths and they made me nuts. 😂 I’d love to find one like yours. Thanks!

@@CaliMomCollectsok thank you. Well, before you do, do you like the polishing cloth? I’ve tried some new ones and the microfiber is slippery and making me crazy! 😂 I love the cotton cloths and usually buy the white and purple ones. But yours just looked like it worked so well!! I’ll look on Amazon to see if I can find a yellow one. Many many thanks.

Hi Angela. 58:50 could be a dark zoisite. That would be my guess because of the red fleck on the side.

Your ring at 23:25 looks a little like Whiting and Davis. They made rings to go with the coil bracelets. Their marks are hard to see. Just sayin… 😁

That is actually African amber that comes from a resin tree in Africa. It glows like amber but it is NOT amber. People just call it "African amber"

Thanks for the Bakelite testing tutorial. I've tested for it often, and, so far: nuttin. I never turn down a tutorial, because you never know when you'll pick up a tip that you just don't know. So, thanks! And yes, I've still barely put a dent in my tube of Simichrome. It's sorta amazing.
