What Does Concrete Slump Mean?

Concrete slump refers to the testing and measurement of the viscosity of a concrete mix. Ingredients in a concrete mix such as water, superplasticizer, or water reducer, all have an effect on the concrete viscosity.
When ordering a truck load of concrete, you need to be able to describe what viscosity you want or need this concrete mix to be. This is when you reference concrete slump. A very dry mix would have essentially zero slump.
Concrete slump is measured from 0 to 5 inches. If you are dealing with more of a self-leveling type of concrete, it would be measured with a slump-flow test, measuring less of the vertical slump and more of the horizontal spread of the mix.
