Anja I have written a plugin that does this using the Spotify API’s. Have a look at the ‘Q-Sys Programming Super Group’ on Facebook, I have shared this and other plugins on that group.
Its been rock solid. Runs 24x7 without issues. Ive recently migrated it to a virtual machine running in Hyper-V just to reduce the number of devices in one of the racks, but its just the same.

Are you controlling an external Spotify player with Q-sys, or are you using a Spotify soft-player built into the Q-Sys core?
This is controlling a raspberry pi running Mopidy for playback. The audio is streamed via RTP to a media stream receiver on the Q-Sys core.
I've considered using Mopidy/Rpi for a similar solution. How has reliability been for you?
