Mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa and pianist Fazıl Say share some tantalising, captivating and sensuous Secrets in this album of songs, centred on Debussy’s Trois Chansons de Bilitis, Ravel’s Shéhérazade and Fazıl Say’s own Gezi Park 3 - which he and Crebassa premiered in 2014. Describing the recording sessions, Marianne Crebassa says: “Sometimes we worked in a kind of trance … there were some moments when nothing seemed to exist around us …”

I never thought the piano part could be played as ravishingly as the orchestration. This is superlative.
Great moments of opera I always prefer the orchestrated version but agree that Say's playing is ravishing. I also enjoyed Crebassa, certainly one to watch, even if the market is oversaturated with mezzos. But her singing in this recording is also ravishing.

She is making sure of her intonation; funneling her voice back to her ears.
You see a lot of singers do this in recording sessions it is to hear their own voice clearly in the studio and not just rely on the sound that goes through the body

die Kritikerin vom SWR2 ist nicht zutreffend! Eigene geschmäcklierische Animositäten über den öffentlich rechtlichen Rundfunk zu verbreiten finde ich unfair, Frau Eickhoff. Vielleicht hat die Sängerin ja nicht eine dieser populären Barock-Zwitscher-Stimmen, aber ich höre einen warmen und sonore Mezzosopran mit vielen Nuancen.

ich habe mit erstaunen festgestellt, dass Pianisten nicht die technischen Fähigkeiten oder auch Schwächen von Sängern erkennen können. Sie hören nur den emotionalen Gehalt und die Tonhöhe. Solange dies stimmt ist bei ihnen alles OK. Dass es körperliche Probleme bringt, die Gesangstechnik mit Füßen zu treten ist ihnen egal. Dabei sollten sie aus eigener Erfahrung wissen, wie schlecht es ist mit verkrampfter Technik profressionell Klavier zu spielen.
