Thank you for taking the time to do this video, i was under the impression that i had bought a broken tuning shroud as it didn't make any difference on my fac impact and on my sub 12. I guess they are a waste of money or maybe they only work on guns above 30 foot pounds. Good work Jeff 👍👍👍
Thanks for posting this! I think that the harmonics on a sub-12 are fairly calm to start with and didn't expect to see much change with the tuner - the tuner is probably influencing the harmonics but the effects are so small that they are lost amongst other inherent inaccuracies. It would be interesting to see the same test done on an FAC rifle. I've always thought that the harmonic tuners were more for .22 rifles that were tuned to power levels that are a lot more than the typical 30-33 fpe. Cheers!
That's what I have read, but after talking to a few FAC people, they seem to be very hit or miss some say they work and others say they make no difference. Its not as clear cut as FX makes out that's for sure. Thanks for watching.
Jeff, could you possibly try making your own version of this with a larger weight and more travel? I wonder if the FX design failed here as it didn't have the weight to impact the barrel you used rather than the FX barrel liners which are like drinking straws
Thanks for this great video. I wonder what would be the outcome of a test without shroud. For sure the shroud should bring some rigidity to the barrel assy and the harmonic damper would have little to no effect
I myself was very curious about tuner’s over a yr. Ago even more so when FX started to claim all these terrific results!. So I made my own, 2 styles of my own design a third style from a well known CF Benchrest shooter did well over a mo. Of testing with a 20ftlb well recognized specific Br rifle, same results as you had, maybe actually worse groups with tuner’s! in place
Yep, they certainly didn't work for me, I still think the problem lies with the liner itself, the tuner is acting on the barrel but has no direct connection to the liner, so its very hard to see what benefit the tuner would have, but we had to test it to make sure. Thanks for watching
Just 2 1mm holes will do around 50mm from the back of the shroud. Not required in most situations, but it some times helps remove turbulent air from behind the pellet. Thanks for watching.
Great stuff thank you,i had wondered about these. Have you done anymore on the valve adapter thingyme bob so you can use multiple fx bottles on a leshiy 2?
Very informative. How did you grease the tuner part that spins around. Mine seems really tight and it squeaks when it’s turned? Do you know if the whole thing unscrews to enable to get to the o rings to lube them without damaging it? Thanks.
@@sub12airgunners it’s greased up nicely now thanks! Did you have the carbon fibre barrel liner fitted to this impact? I’ve heard the tuner works better when both are used together?
@@OCDfish didn't try them together but the carbon fiber stiffener made my rifle much worse, like a noticeable decrease in performance, so we took it off. The FX liner/ barrel products seem to be a bit hit or miss for us, our next test is to fill barrel with epoxy resin and test it, that way it will basically be a solid barrel so hopefully that will solve any possible harmonic or vibration troubles with the liners. Thanks for watching.
Another great review Jake! I'm guessing many of these 'innovations' are aimed at the extreme FAC market, and of course trickle down to Sub 12 as a matter of course. We're a curious lot by nature, continuously chasing accuracy, and now beyond the original '5p Coin' standard. It would be interestig to know how well (or not) this might work on an FAC rated rifle, and also on varying lengths of barrel. I struggle at the best of times to acieve tight groups, so fairly certain these gimmicks would bring nothing to the game for me ;)
The results were so consistent that I don't think so, the rifle performed better without the tuning shroud anyway, so even a good liner will see little benefit I believe. Thanks for watching.
Think it's clutching at straw's now with this harmonic tuning stuff tbh, the results of an increase of accuracy is so minimal it's not even worth it. IMHO
For sub 12 its not worth it in the slightest, I have not seen a full proper test in an FAC rifle though so I can't say for sure it does not work in that application, but definitely for sub 12 not worth it. Thanks for watching
Hi guys. I think that maybe will do something in sub 12. With Crown 700mm superlight barrel, because aluminium tube is a great conductor to harmonics than carbon. In impact whith 500mm barrel with carbon tube dont do nothing at that speeds and caliber. Also the barrel on impact is more secure than in crown. I discover with my crown with the fx radar on the barrel, it make my best group ever (1cm) at 100 meter with 21gr slug. Without fx radar weight became bigger (4cm). Sorry my english, but i hope u get my idea
I like your videos but 95 percent haven’t got access to the tools you have .another thing you never mention the cost it’s has cost you .keep up the good work should like to see more on increasing power on the Fx Dreamline .all the best des
Of course it doesn't make a difference. Only common sense would tell you it would make no difference on your particular rifle set up. Which is a short barrel, low power (sub 12) and light weight projectiles (.177). A long barrel, higher power and a larger caliber is where a harmonic tuner would make a difference. I live in the States and I truly wish your government laws would allow you to shoot above sub 12.
We are allowed to shoot above sub 12 , you simply provide a good reason for wanting a specific calibre and have the necessary land permission to shoot over, firearms ownership in the UK is privilege not a automatic right and provided you fit the criteria ,I.e no criminal record you would have no problem getting one
@@james1795 I'm of the opinion that it being inconvenient is a good thing as it weeds out the people who in my opinion ( and it is only my opinion) are not the type who should own or shoot guns, it's the "nut behind the butt" as my old company sergeant major would say.
@@PaulHamM3. Yes, I suppose you are correct. You all probably have more "nuts behind the butts" than we have over here in the States. Thanks for making that point clear to me.
Nice to see someone do a good test unlike most of the FX sales rep😊

Most FX vids on yt are all on the fx payroll.

Its nice to see an honest youtuber for a change exactly the same findings as mine, looks nice but thats about the only difference it makes 👍
Good to hear you had similar results, no use for sub 12, thanks for watching.

The barrel tuner is about moving the node, you should tune the gun first then use the barrel tuner,

It's all about moving the nodes to the exact point that the pellet leaves the barrel,
it may well be, but it made absolutely no difference where it was on our gun at all 👍
Interesting. Thanks for video. 🤔🤔
Thanks for watching.
What’s the max regulator pressure you can get from a crown mk2 sub 12ftlb
Interesting.
Does it make the overall length on the gun longer or is it the same size?
