This game literally traumatized me because i got too attached to Royal and now i cant look at a picture of him or this game in general without wanting to curl up into a ball and get swallowed by a black hole
The ending of this game is pure suffering. By the end of the game one of your favorite characters is going to be dead, unless it's fucking Tolo or something.
Thank you for being one of the few persons who gave attention to this game. I loved it and I recommend it for people who like metroidvanias with good stories and characters and puzzles, especially considering you showed only the basics of the story.
It's not really a metroidvania, as you barely use your upgrades to progress, unless plot decides so. You don't have that much freedom either, you can't jut get the wrench upgrade or the gun upgrade whenever you want if you have the minimum abilities. And barely any useful backtracking due to it being pretty linear (unless you want to 100% the game) The characters were good, the story was ok? (i guess), the final boss leaves a sense of an unfinished story. The game itself is ughh, can't say it's bad, but can't say it's that good either. You only really need to fight bosses most of the time. Regular enemies are just like moving obstacles, there's no gain in confronting them. Puzzles are quite basic most of the time as well, upgrade system is honestly obsolete. Dialog choices matter slightly, not that much tho and the logic behind them is weird, if you want to change the final fight slightly.
@@romank9611 I really liked the story, mostly because the characters seemed very much like real people, many of them had character arcs and the beautiful detailed pixel art really made it easy to see their reactions. It is a bit hard to follow at the beginning, until you learn what some of the names mean, but I think it's worth it. To be honest, I don't mind it not requiring backtracking for finishing the story and if you really wanna get the 100& you will have enough backtracking to do to make up for the lack of it before anyway. Yeah, I agree that the upgrade system is not very impactful, but it can still helps at times and I think the skill difficulty of the game (medium to low) doesn't require more powerful upgrades. The real difficulty of the game comes from the puzzles which are annoying at times, but a lot of them are not required to finish the game. I did enjoy the parts of the game when you needed to figure it out HOW to fight the boss before actually fighting him, that's the kind of puzzles I want to see more in games. For the dialog options I agree with you, I wish they had a purpose beside making it a bit easier for you in the final fight. I would have loved it if you could save some characters based on it, especially if you could convince Royal to stay behind when you go to the space station. But hey, at least this way you can give your protagonist some personality, I guess. Overall is not a perfect game and I can see how some people wouldn't like it, but it's very well done and I think it still more people should give it a shot.
In all seriousness, having to leave Royal behind messed me up mentally so badly. I spent a lot of time there trying to figure out a way to get him through.
In a minute, i thought i was smart, i tried to use the "switch place gun" to make him go to the other scaner, and we both pass, but no, it was not possible. Than i thought if i stayed with him, he would tell me a solution, but no. I've then proceded to close the game and do not play for a week.
@@kin5678insane when i've played that part again, i've I noticed a thing. One panel is working but hanging by a wire, and the other is just broken, it has cracks on it. If you used the swap weapon thing, the two would've died.
If I'm not mistaken, Word of God said that they designed the scene SPECIFICALLY so there was no way to save Royal, gameplay-wise or lore-wise. The idea was to show to both the player and Robin, who has been helping everyone throughout the game selflessly no matter what, that some people are too far gone to be helped. Royal started as a bit of an entitled bastard, but after he realized the truth, he wholeheartedly tried to change for the better, and wanted to help. Thing is, that he was too far gone to do a heel-face turn, so we had to learn that there was no helping him, either to break out of the hallucinations, or to escape the space station. Once you begin to think about it, it's an amazing written bit, but the fact that I had began to get invested in Royal only for him to helplessly die alone in the explosion hit me so hard that I couldn't continue the game. It's a really good game, but god damn does it get dark after the tower.
Norad2 how exactly MGS plot is crazy? It is just a simple story about pissed of grandpa, who created the nation of soldiers, was killed by his own clone, then that clone proceeds to kill another clone, while uncovering the conspiracy regarding recreation of metal gear, which leads to patriots, which is pretty much capitalist Illuminati, ai created the war economy, there this cool black guy who sells weapons, who is an agent of patriots and... You actually can't. Tried this sequence many times but devs confirmed it is INTENDED that you leave Royal behind on the Moon... There is no spare key, there is no something to block the door from closing, you can't swap places with him with Swap Gun or fix the damn door scaner... YOU CAN'T SAVE HIM. Which is kinda sad cause after facing reality Royal actually tried to prove himself and mend the situation, he let go of his arrogance and false views only to die in such a miserable way - left behind by his trusted friend cause she was left (by devs) with no choice - either Royal dies or both die. Oh and also - game doesn't have different endings or branching paths - there is one and only story and one ending. So yea... In the end you feel like you got your normal ending where heroes kinda win but somewhat lose and not the Golden 100% completion one... Too bad it doesn't exist.
i dont think royal gave up his arrogance. or at the very least, he regressed as soon as things didnt go his way. the situation that caused his death was kind of because he had a tantrum and blew a hole in gods face. His last line before he gets his mind fried is "YOU WILL LISTEN". I know thats also out of desperation, but its also pretty arrogant, he still feel's just as entitled as before, and he still thinks his actions are the most right course of actions. he did face reality a bit, and on the rocket he did speak on how he would try to be better after it was all over. but he was still talking as if he was going to take mothers place and be a more kind ruler, which would be fine if the world NEEDED a ruler, but in the context of the story it sounded arrogant after his brain is fried you hear him in a state of pure regret, but he was hit by a depression beam, so i dont think that counts as a real character change.
@@Gatekid3 I finally played this game and honestly I still think the beam didn't really bring out anything that wasn't there. Just killing him over a tantrum when he'd obviously need time to get better still feels completely unearned and 100% ruins the ending and retroactively the rest of the story for me. I get why it might seem fine from the developers' point of wiew but I'll never forgive it being the only choice when it absolutely wasn't the right one

I picked this game up purely on the fact that I liked the semi-retro pixel art style and the Metroidvania gameplay it seemed to promise (from a quick PSN trailer video) a couple of months back. It's a refreshingly fun and challenging game with a dystopian setting that has the potential for a great story. I say "potential" because I haven't finished the game yet since other things kinda distracted me and I want to just sit down and dedicate an entire weekend to it... And yes, there are a LOT of waifus. The ones on the title screen are just the more notable characters in the story; so far, I haven't found a settlement that DIDN'T have at least a couple of potential waifus wandering around. >.>
I've said this before, but I really, really like your videos. Your content is easily (as of right now anyways ;)) my favorite on youtube. Thanks for your effort!
Saw the first minute of this video, thought "huh, this game looks neat, i'll check it out". I was not fucking ready for how heavy this game can be. In terms of tone, it is remarkably similar to Mother 3, in how it has a good balance of cartoony humor and surprisingly real shit.

I know thats also out of desperation, but its also pretty arrogant, he still feel's just as entitled as before, and he still thinks his actions are the most right course of actions.
he did face reality a bit, and on the rocket he did speak on how he would try to be better after it was all over. but he was still talking as if he was going to take mothers place and be a more kind ruler, which would be fine if the world NEEDED a ruler, but in the context of the story it sounded arrogant
after his brain is fried you hear him in a state of pure regret, but he was hit by a depression beam, so i dont think that counts as a real character change.
Gatekid3
Lol Royal the best ur gay
i love royal. he tried his best.
but he's still several miles up his own butt
@@Gatekid3 I finally played this game and honestly I still think the beam didn't really bring out anything that wasn't there. Just killing him over a tantrum when he'd obviously need time to get better still feels completely unearned and 100% ruins the ending and retroactively the rest of the story for me. I get why it might seem fine from the developers' point of wiew but I'll never forgive it being the only choice when it absolutely wasn't the right one
The art's really nice for this, gotta admit. Reminds me a lot of the style used for Noitu Love 2.
okay, now I'm really interested in the story of this game?? great job, as always! 👍

Nice video, but after you mentioned a podcast called serial killers it was all I could think about. Got a link for us?

*burst into house* BLACK! That was unintentionally hilarious.
At first I thought the brother's wife and daughter was just captured, but they're not. They're dead af. My heart augh.

Why are we watching this dog?
Why the screen zoomed in on the dog?
Why there were a particles effect flying by?
Why the screen shaking?
Is there a fight happening?
Is someone dying?
Why are we still looking at the dog?
First of all that's not a dog, that's a cat, second of all, why not? Third, the building was collapsing, fourth, see third, fifth, yes, but outside, sixth, literally everyone, finally, because.

As a tried and true cowboy sexual I am offended that you would even consider ignoring the cowboy on the cover!
Man, wish I'd known about your channel sooner. Your content is amazing.

This looks like an advanced starbound mod
This game looks gorgeous and an absolute delight. I have to check this out.

That's a samurai, my dude.
Maybe you could have switched places with Royal so that he was by the second panal keeping the door open?
Gregory Moran Not really. That panel is broken, so you would just get trapped there.
Nope, the supremacy shot just *CONVENIENTLY* doesn’t work.
Thank you very much for making the absolute worst video on Iconoclasts and preventing me from playing it for actual years
Jesus christ this should be a crime

Those are some nice credits in the description.
7:50 that bomb looks like a hamburger. I may be hungry, but that hamburger looked tasty.
In terms of tone, it is remarkably similar to Mother 3, in how it has a good balance of cartoony humor and surprisingly real shit.
can someone plz explain the story and the weird blue slime and white trees? PLEASE along with the purple sleep pods AND THE GAME STORYLINE IN GENERAL
This game looks super fun. I'm definitely gonna play it!
