    I’m happy to see someone more realistic to my annual income. I make around 60k in Chicago and want to get a 2Bd Rm. I’m 25 as well!! THANKS FOR THIS!

    The key here is that she’s willing to leave LA. Most of the young people in her position don’t want to leave LA. She should either stay put, or move to a cheaper area. You can’t even find a studio in the slums of Hollywood for $1350. I wouldn’t advise her to come to northern CA either, it’s expensive here too.

    If you work remotely and can work anywhere, go somewhere cheaper or don't complain about the costs. I like she said she's willing to relocate - and she should.

      Hi Mike: Yes, I like that remote idea, myself, no matter what Dave says, that way you can work any hours day or night, and go to school, if one chooses which I'm doing. Save on gas, traffic, yes. Well, it's all up to the individual, but we do have choses now. But, call me crazy, I love L.A. and the people and the climate is wonderful, money, I will adjust.

    Riverside is way cheaper than LA. Northern California has some of the most expensive real estate in the country

      Depends what parts. Sacramento and surrounding areas are a lot cheaper than L. A.

      @@terminaterjohn true. but i think her income can go up pretty fast shes only 25 and making 65k. People learn sooo much from the age of 25 to their 30s and incomes typically rise really fast during this age range given shes got that great start at only 25. Plus maybe shell find a great partner and they can combine incomes.

    1bd might be like $1,800 but she can get a roommate and a 2bd for like $2,300 to save money. She might as well get a mini fridge and a camping cooktop and stack up cash for a purchase outside CA.

    Ok Dave and Ken. I have worked for the same company for almost 20 rears. 15 of which have been from home. I have worked with a lot of great people made a lot of connections. I have never met most of the people I work with in person. It hasn't held me back.

    She kinda sounds like me when I started out 20 years ago almost. I rented a room, in LA, and saved a ton of money. I invested a ton and put myself in a much better position and moved to a LCOL city later on. I did make more than her but the strategy would be similar.

    Bakersfield is about an hour north, maybe 1.5 hours of LA proper. Way cheaper. She could visit the family and live WAY cheaper...

    Re: work from home and promotions. It really depends. I work for a company with only about 100 people who are all working at least hybrid (so no one really forgets anyone else), and the career track and timing of promotions in my field is more based on time spent doing it, not anything else

    Im planning on mov8ng out if my parents this summer. For christmas i asked for any houseware i could think of that i could reasonably store in my parents home untill its time to move. So i have a furnishings from my bedroom im taking woth me, plus any kitchenware id need. So all i have to do is furnish a living room, dining room and bathroom

    Several cities offering $$ to remote workers to move there for a year. This girl could also go live super cheap in Mexico or Costa Rica (keep grandparents house as domicile-just physically move ) as long as she made sure to have good WiFi.

    Rents have gone up in affordable places over the past year, $1350 is common, I know someone who was paying $900 and it increased to $1300 overnight. This was once a more reasonable area.

My job involves looking at rental rates all across the country and it isn't outlandish for her to stay in LA. She can get a nice place for 2k a month and still have twice that to play around with since she has no debt. Doesn't need to move to a cheaper area yet if she doesn't want to
