This week Damian flies to Italy once again, but this time it’s not a new car launch. This time it is to take part in the Pilota Ferrari, an intense 2-day track training session at the legendary Fiorano test circuit. This is something TheCarGuys have wanted to do for years, and finally it was time to bite the bullet and book it. And you’re coming too!
This episode showcases everything about this incredible racing techniques course held in the heart of Ferrari, and run by Ferrari racing drivers. How much does it all cost to attend? What driving techniques do you learn? Can it really improve your track driving style? Will it make you a Ferrari racing driver? All these questions and more will be answered in this week’s episode. I learned that brake and gas technique in PC games, long before i bought and drove a car. But for real car, of course it's totally different especially a ferrari. I hope i can drive one in the future..

9:38 I think to summarize: the shortest point between A and B is a straight line (ie. finding the ideal path around a given circuit) and the goal in cornering is to maximize tires' traction budget (ie. avoiding braking while moving laterally). These are the fundamentals of speed.

Nice experience, especially 2/3 in with the telemetry and the comments. Hearing/seeing this is an instructive experience that reinforces prior instruction (if you had some before). Re-play this on your largest TV as phone and tablet not adequate. The split screen of 488 and SuperFast appreciated.

Look at the instructors. Slim, physically and focused, psychologically. That's how you get to be the best in this game.
I've done laps in supercars and the best experience is not releasing the acceleration out of a wide corner and finding you're still on the track with the instructor overjoyed you did it. It's all about pushing your own limits and if you're lucky to get good, the cars.
Get out and do the lap experience days with qualified racing drivers to get a taste of what track driving is all about. Everyone can afford that even if it's just a one off treat.

That was awesome Damian. The cost has to be viewed in the context, as you say, who is teaching you, and what you are driving. Have myself done a couple of drive experiences (not ferrari!), but they pale against this. One on one tuition is nirvana if you want to learn. Sounds like a vacation in Italy might be in order. Thanks for sharing.

I did this course last week and it was absolutely fantastic !
The best driving course/event I have done.
For example, I have also attended Porsche track days at Silverstone with an instructor but this Ferrari course is better. The telemetry and video analysis is amazing.

4:40 Like the custom kit to record and analyze telemetry with voice, video, etc. The Corvette offers an option with the same functionality built into the car. Uncertain if more than one camera can be engaged on the C8. Analysis is via the Cosworth Toolkit software. www.chevrolet.com/performance-data-recorder

My instructor (not Ferrari ) introduced me to 'lift off oversteer.' How most people go backwards through hedges,when new to a seriously powerful car.His catchphrase was learn and live👍

Great video Damian. Really enjoyable to watch in car plus telemetry. You were obviously listening to your instructors. It’s a great feeling when you nail a corner right.
The thing that rang true the loudest was taking a humility pill before you get behind the wheel. However good you think you are, racing probably isn’t your full time job, so there’ll always be lots to learn from a professional.
And being prepared to unlearn what you think is right is the most important of all. Having benefitted from all 4 levels of California Superbike School tuition I had to cast aside a lot of assumptions and let my self-taught technique be disassembled and then put back together again - it was revelatory and has benefitted my riding and driving on track and road immeasurably.
Learning to be a better driver/rider is always a good investment.

Does life get any better than this? This looks amazing and great to see Ferrari teaching owners to explore the potential of their cars safely. Everything about this video was bang on. What about stepping out of the big front v12 to the mid engine 8 ? Does the 12 feel a heavier, more reluctant car ( in track ) ? Which one was more friendly to the more inexperient drivers of the group ?

Years ago and the only time I drove a sports car was in an Aston Martin in a race track getting tuition on how to drive such a fast car.
Frightening and exciting bearing in mind I arrived there with family n a Ford C-Max.
The instructor even asked do you drive a people carrier?

Over 20 years ago my work colleague gave me a lift. It turns out he was a rally car driver. I was amazed at how he drove and yes, positioning before and the after a corner was everything

Would be interested to hear your thoughts on track of the 812 vs. 488 vs. Pista...
Pista by far the quickest - you can tell it is a track bred car. 488 felt comfortable and happy, but a little bit softer. 812 was quick, but you can't disguise that weight, so it was a bit wallowy and struggled to put down the power and shed the speed. Both turbo cars were strangled by traction control and it felt weird changing up so often because there were no more revs left.

Any decent track course would teach you the same techniques, at a fraction of the price. So there is no excuse for anyone to find the nearest one and join!
These courses are the best to become a better driver not only on track, but on the road as well. They are also a humbling experience.
