I'm not opposed to the dog theory or the crows. But there's two possible answers I don't think enough people are considering, the first is that it's whatever the Abby/Kotry visions are heard him and "told". I feel like that's obvious considering he just was speaking to it before he said it. The second option is less obvious and also less mystical but possible. The creatures that live underground simply just heard him yelling it 🤷🏽♂️. This happens at the same time Victor and Tabitha are in the caves, so we know the creatures were awake, maybe they simply heard him.
Boyd was yelling during the day in S2E10. The Creatures sleep during the day unless they are awakened, which we saw when people were in the cave near them. Victor was taking Tabitha to the Faraway Tree, S2E10, in the forest during this time before she went into the tree then to the lighthouse. Abby could have followed Boyd out of the lair, but I believe the camera showed the dog for a reason. We have not seen Abby for the remainder of the series.

I think the man in yellow can see almost everything in town and control the monsters even speak and do things via them as he can use even damaged juke box and telephones off the wall . If u remember he could even see tabitha digging in her basement that no one was there ,no crows or dog or monsters. So he must have something to do all that stuff . He even appear to bouyd and jade like the dead people and speak with them to manipulate them or take their hope in trying things🙏🙏
What if the talismans Boyd found in the cave was keeping something trapped an when he removed them something got out, how many talismans did Boyd find, does anyone know, I don't have the channel to watch from so I have been watching all the podcasts to find out what's going on.
Is the roads in From in the shape of the F shaped trees in the cave art an talismans an draws an paintings, in the picture you should it looks like the Roads are in the shape of F shaped trees.
There isn't a rule for a time requirement for a mole/spy who befriends but is really working for the other side. The dog could have been off-screen watching and reporting.
