Deathcore will generally have down tuned guitars, blast beats, tremolo picking and gutteral vocals. Very similar to death metal, but then deathcore also has breakdowns just like metalcore

    • @Phiktional
      @Phiktional 3 ปีที่แล้ว +60

I always explain it like this, metalcore is the blending of heavy metal and hardcore. You'll have clean and harsh vocals and dinner heavy breakdowns. Deathcore is the mixing of death metal and hardcore. You'll get the down rubbed guitars, blast beats, harsh vocals and the heavy breakdowns.

    • @chelseagrinfan1

@@Phiktional not really the best definition of metalcore since Thrash Metal is a mix of heavy metal and hardcore punk. I'd say metalcore is 90's beatdown hardcore with big influence of melo death riffing and (sometimes) use of clean singing choruses.

Mate, you made my day. I’m a middle aged man, recently totally into Lorna Shore. Many years ago when grunting started to come about i was totally revolted by it. But look… 30ish years later… this music, man… wow, just wow! And the skills of these musicians!!! Serious stuff this! And you are the first one i heard this calling “sweet”…. 😄😄😉
    This whole band… just wow!!!

I love the production on this as well. The key/synth is a driving force but doesn't drown out the guitars etc. Metal drummers are some of the best of any genre imo. Insane pedal work

Thank you for pointing out how hard the drummer worked and the accomplishment it is. I believe this was when he had a herniated disk too.

Also he has minor layering but it’s very close to the same in concert.

With this kind of music the vocalist is really another instrument, he does enunciate more than most though. I promise if you read the lyrics one or twice it’s easier to hear.

    Lyrics:
I'll hold onto feeling until my final breath escapes
Gazing upon this world until it fades
Fall with me into the other night
We can go beyond the horizon again
Fall with me until we're out of time
    Let the current swallow
    These whispers keep clawing
    Your mind is dissolving light
Sink while you bathe in hallucination
Accept this descent into the night, releasing your grasp to
Induce separation, plunged into the shadows
Lost in sensation, we're free-falling down into the ever black
Can you feel it? These pins and needles
Trapped in sensation, see what you have found here
    You fell into the dark
    Fell into the dark
Release your grip and face the tide, accepting this damnation
Relinquish flesh temptation of the body and soul
The ebb and the flow, nothing confessed
    Put me to rest
Azrael, guiding me beyond the veil
Obitual, free me from this mortal shell
Enter into the darkest night, I will sink where I lie
Through the sands of time, through the angel's eye
    My final breath
Swallowed by the womb of death
Swallowed by the womb of death
    Whispers are clawing
    Your mind is dissolving light
Enter the void and fall with me, with me, with me
And fall with me, with me
    Enter the void, fall
Release your grip and face the tide accepting this damnation
Relinquish flesh temptation of the body and soul
The ebb and the flow, nothing confessed
    Put me to rest
Azrael, guiding me beyond the veil
Obitual, free me from this mortal shell
Enter into the darkest night, I will sink where I lie
Through the sands of time, through the angel's eye
    My final breath
Swallowed by the womb of death
Swallowed by the womb of death
Swallowed by the womb of death
Sink while you bathe in hallucination
    My final breath
Swallowed by the womb of death
As you pass through the fucking gate
    Descending towards the end faster

Very happy to see you react to this! Will is very talented! You can look up live performances of this song AND someone's already this int he comment section but will released a video of him doing it one take live no editing on the vocals! And it sounds practically the same! There's diffantely a different in the sound of live verses recorded, but will is damn close to not needing it!

  • @maxterchief99

The main difference between metalcore and deathcore is that, in metalcore, there are most often clean vocals involved (think Architects, Ice Nine Kills...), whereas deathcore is almost exclusively hard vocals, screams and growls (like Lorna Shore, Angelmaker...)!

    • @richardlohmann4013
      @richardlohmann4013 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I like that you picked AngelMaker as second representative for Deathcore.. you got good taste :D

    • @stormofmagic9358
      @stormofmagic9358 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That is not the main difference. There are deathcore bands with cleans, albeit not many, just as there are VERY many metalcore bands without cleans.
The first metalcore out there has close to no cleans either.
The biggest difference lies in the blast beats, guitar tuning, tremolo picking and vocal styles (not necessarily cleans vs non-cleans)

    • @stormofmagic9358
      @stormofmagic9358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@ninjafang of course metalcore has a lot more cleans. My point is that if you're listening to a song you can't decide if it's metalcore or deathcore just based on whether there are cleans in the song or not.
August Burns Red, Alpha Wolf and Converge are examples of hige metalcore bands without cleans.
Slice The Cake, Shadow Of Intent and newer Whitechapels are examples of deathcore with cleans in them.
However, you are still able to hear a distinct difference, it just doesn't have much to do with the amount of cleans.
As to why most deathcore doesn't have cleans, I think it's because it simply fits less in many of the lyrical themes and together with the mote aggressive and intense style of music
Feel free to point it out if you think something is inaccurate or confusing about this reply

6:54 you mention hearing it as a wall of sound, it's interesting to see the perspective of people who aren't too familiar with this genre, i've been a metalhead since forever and, this wall of sound to me, i can break it down to hear the different layers, orchestra, guitars etc and sometimes it's very difficult to explain how insane the song is, because it's obviously not audible for everyone, especially Lorna Shore, it's a lot to take in as it is already so yeah, very interesting ^^

Will just released a vocal one take. This song brings me to tears, not so much from a sadness, but the raw emotion that gets pulled out. The whole song is a build up to the end where every emotion is just spilled out at once. Spritbox's rules of nine has the same affect on me personally.
