Are fancy exercises like the Bottom-Up Carry worth it? In this excerpt from our live Q&A, I share a nuanced perspective on their benefits, particularly in light of Prof. Stuart McGill's research on kettlebell training for low back pain. Learn why carries, including the Bottom-Up Carry, are essential for core strength, stability, and injury prevention, and how they complement functional exercises like the Kettlebell Swing. Perfect for anyone over 40 looking to train smarter and stay pain-free! #KettlebellTraining #BottomUpCarry #LowBackPain #StuartMcGill #CoreStrength"

Bottom-up carries are great for grip/forearm development, but so are regular carries. Good example of " SOS". Thanks Gregory for emphasizing the basics! Shiny objects belong on Christmas trees! 🎄

I agree with you to all of them my brother except the get up they are a ton of get up variations the Turkish is one of them maybe the most "fancy" but is powerhouse for general combination of strength-cordination-muscle endurance-mobility-flexibility,my humble opinion, but it's based of experience and checking Dan John and Mark Wildman.

I have been using a kettlbells for about 2 months now. I do
    Kettlebell halos
    Around the worlds
    Deadlift
    Goblet squat
    Kickstand squat with each leg
    kettlebell swings
    Push-ups
I am on day 3 of a 30 day Farmers Walk challenge also.
    I exercise 3-4 days a week.
My strength and mobility have gotten much stronger, I had a long period of inactivity and pretty out of shape. It feels good. I also learned how to correctly move my body in daily things including work which has helped me lots as well. Thanks for the content, I like your videos and have learned a lot from them. You are one of my kettlebell channels and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.
I trained with a 20 pound kettlebell until this week, when I got my first competition kettlebells and went up to 12kg (26lbs). The competition kettlebells are much better than the ones I got off amazon to start with. And my body will take some time to adjust to the new size in weight, which I have to look forward too. Soon I will start to practice the single-hand swing and then the Clean. Also excited for when I can conquer that 💪

@96Bialy I like doing them actually. I do around the world's and Halo's as a warm up after stretching. It gets the core and upper body firing many times before I start everything else. I also find it fun.

Back in the early 2000's I did fancy stuff and I made progress in spite of the fancy stuff. I say this because the fancy stuff seemed to gravitate toward lighter weights. Literally for years I stuck with the 1.5 pood weight thinking I would progress once that weight felt easy. Guess what? It never felt easy. It still doesn't. Regardless, at one point I said "screw it" I am going up to the 2 pood (32kg) and it was a struggle but I could work with it. Once I started struggling with the heaviest weight possible, that's when the results went through the roof. Obviously it took me years to get to that point, so I am not going to be hypocritical and advise others to move up before they're ready. I only want to encourage others to have the courage to try that next weight. It might just be right up your alley. But it is a shift in the mind-set. Even to this day, 20 years later, whenever I clean a 32kg or a 40kg, my first reaction is OMG this is heavy.

I've been training with Kettlebells since June. (The same time i discovered this channel)
I'm doing the rite of passage program from Pavel which consists of only the clean and press, snatch and swings. These three (fundamental) exercises on their own just build so much strength.
Even on my variety days i only do some squats, rows, deadlifts, windmills and pushups to target some specific muscles.
All those "fancy" exercises are just too complicated to program. A lot of times i'm not even sure what they are for.
It's like Dan John said "Easy does it!"

"never underestimate power of carry exercises"
But then you show the waiter walk (an overhead carry) with the label "fancy"?
(to be fair you were marching in place not walking. But if the weather is rubbish outside, doing walk/march in place will do the trick if you have limited room
