A Japanese Helen Keller truly respected and called him“my teacher.”
In 1937, Helen Keller came to Japan and visited Hokiichi's memorial house. She expressed her impression as follows: “When I was a child, my mother told me that Mr. Hanawa should be my role model. To visit this place and touch his statue was the most significant event during this trip to Japan. The worn desk and the statue facing down earned more respect of him. ”
Hokiichi became blind when he was 5 years old.
One summer night, a wife of a Samurai, read a book for Hokiichi. She found that he had tied up his hands together. Asked why he did so, Hokiichi replied, “Whenever I move my hand to get mosquitoes away, I tend to miss words of your reading. So as not to do that, I did this.”. He always studied with an attitude like this.

Funny concept, but Helen Keller wasn't mute
Common misconception, Helen Keller was actually an avid smoker of PCP.
Reno: Pretty sure she was. I don't see how somebody who was deaf since birth could learn to speak.
They did develop a way for her to communicate, but not very many people knew it. As far as I know, just her tutor, who was her constant translator of all information to her and from her.
Which raises the interesting question. How many of her ideas, speeches and etc, were really hers?
@@milascave2 Mute means you cannot speak. She could speak not just English, she could even speak French and German too. Now it was not easy to understand speech, but I can make out most of it. But deaf that can speak still need an interpreter because they can't hear. So yes, she needed her teacher to sign into her hand when someone spoke to her.

The real Helen Keller was blind and deaf from birth so she could not speak, though she could communicate by hand taping, but only with her teacher and a small number of other people who could communicate in that way, which is not by any definition speaking. Evan deaf sighted people who know fluent sign language and can communicate with a lot of people can not speak" if they are totally death from birth.
@@milascave2 Well, I was thinking of "speak" in terms of being able to utter words and have them be understood by others, not have a conversation. Obviously she couldn't speak WITH someone without her teacher, not even with signing deaf people as she couldn't see their signs.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but much of Helen Keller's life and her ability to communicate were fraudulently portrayed by her handler, Anne Sullivan. She reportedly changed her story as to how she taught Helen Keller to communicate and how she communicated with her multiple times. You have made remarkable achievements in your life and while her story may have inspired you it was your determination that drove you to achieve what you have. Congratulations

She wasn't mute but if you've ever met a deaf person they can't speak normally. Now couple that with being blind, your not going to make any coherent noises with your mouth.
