Flippin Bags

  • It’s gets so dark so fast this time of year. The whole process took me about 20 minutes and the sunset a lot faster than I planned for!
    Finally after all this time, here's how we flip the fire wood bags for customer bulk deliveries!!! We use chains with large safety hooks to come thru the pallet and hook into the lower "unloading" straps on the bags. This holds the pallet on forks and helps pull the emptied bag from the back of the truck.
    Fun facts to get out of the way first:
    - Full Cord = 128 cubic feet STACKED or 180 cubic feet HAND TOSSED
    - Our "Log Lift" bags are a 1/3 of a cord each = 3 bags for a FULL Cord
    - Our dump truck is 10ft long by 8ft wide and has 52inch high sides = 1.93 cords (loose not stacked) if the wood is level with the sides. We heap it to to a nice crown and that's how we get 2 full cords.
    History on the bags, our bags sit outside and fully exposed to sun and whatever nasty weather we have in northeast Pennsylvania. Only the logos have faded. UV has not effected the bags beyond the faded logos. Still good and strong and do not rip easily. We flip our bags approx 8 to 10 times a year. They hold up very well. Occasionally we have some that are fatally wounded, but all in all they have been the best to quickly season the wood and the easiest to store the wood in with NO stacking required!
    - White bag with white mesh and green logo is from 2019
    - White bag with black mesh and green logo is from 2020
    - White bag with black mesh and blue logo is 2021

    Thanks so much for posting this. I use an excavator and use bags as well. I used to hook chains across the top to place the bag in my dump trailer then place a chain across the bottom to grab and flip the bag upside down. I ruined alot of bags this way. After watching your video I now use my pallet forks on my excavator and do it just like you. Much less stress on the bag but at first a little nerve racking lifting that much weight that high with a 4 ton excavator.

    I would lower the pallet in the box some so the wood is not being dumped at such a height banging up the floor in the bed..

    A cord is 4ft x 4ft x8ft stacked. You can only get a 1/3 of a cord on a pallet if it is stacked.

      we verified the amount in an older video. YES, you can get a 1/3 of a cord in the bags. 128CF for a stacked cord and 180CF is hand tossed cord. We've been doing this for a long while. thx

    Nice set up👍 Mike. You just dumped🤔 between 8000 to 9000# pounds in that truck. I heard her crying all the way down the Road. I've got a question about your skid steer firewood processor model 120. Have you tried them on the larger mini skid steer machines yet? Such as Vermeer CTX 160 or the Ditch Witch SK 1550?

      Its actually about 7200#'s, truck is not even on the helpers. The Halverson processors all come down to hydraulics. They will run on anything with 15.5 GPM w/ 2,850PSI minimum and must have a case drain.

      It’s a 2014 Ram and the previous owner ran firewood with it. Said he moved over 6000 face cord with it. I’d say she’s holding together pretty well!

    Is there any issue with mold or fungus when using bags to dry ?

    • @ShaverSalesINC
      @ShaverSalesINC  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s all about the airflow! No mold no black spots, just match stick ready firewood

    Have you noticed any drying time difference? What size is that dump box?

    • @ShaverSalesINC

      Huge difference in dry time. 6 months and we seasoned red oak. After that I was a believer and haven’t looked back since.

      @@mikea4074 we cracked a sample from bag and moisture tested the inside split for high teens. Try “trial” period was Oct to March. Uncovered and open to the snow and winter weather. Truck box and math is in the video description, but it’s 52” x 8 x 10

      @@ShaverSalesINC I'm not good at reading *eats another crayon* sorry I didn't see it. Can you stack them?

    • @ShaverSalesINC
      @ShaverSalesINC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikea4074 it’s all good my friend. I try to anticipate some questions. I don’t recommend stacking the bags. We put them all on pallets to keep them off the ground. If you stack them and them settle, you won’t be able to get the fork in the pallet.
