Very true about the demos. Funnily enough it's Fiverr and Agencies where demos matter the most - demos to get access to agencies, and to book jobs on Fiverr. Fiverr jobs are obtained with no audition, so the demos have to be good.

This might be the most significant video you have ever created, Bill. Honesty is rare in the 2024 business world and even less in the creative world. You simply have to have the goods in order to be successful. Thank you!

Ultimately, you have to sound professional in any setting. Hardly anyone is going to buy a middle of the road sound and performance. Equipment matters and your skills with your DAW will matter. In my experience with other audio endeavors such as singing, even demos have to sound studio ready. You have to create the sound the customer is going to get. At the end of the day you need a good room to record in with at least a 300 dollar condenser microphone or get a budget dynamic. All of which must be XLR. I've tried usb for some time and no luck. It is great for streaming but to sound quality matters to those who know how to peg out the quality.

I would say don’t get a pro demo until you’re good enough for it. No pro demo is going to make you sound like a pro unless your delivery is pro. I think some studio’s will pressure to record even if you are not ready to record in a pro environment. Studios will get a cut of your recording expense. It’s not a cheap affair, around here it’s 2k for a demo.

I'm new to all of this a (like 1 week in) and I'm really enjoying your videos. I like how straightforward you are about things. I haven't gotten on Fiverr yet. I'm actually good with graphics and that sort of thing.
My question is about if I were able to get a professional demo at some point, but my actual production wasn't able to come from a fancy studio, is there a problem with the implied quality I'd be presenting with the pro demo, but recording in a makeshift studio?
I ask because within a year I will be on the road full time, traveling (travel vlogger), and any recording I'd be doing for VO would be in hotel rooms and such.

As with any marketing, you have to catch your potential customer's eye.
Example: if you like craft beer, how could you possibly think about passing up a brew called Arrogant Bastard that has a gargoyle on the bottle?
The trick is, of course, knowing what will catch your potential customer's eye and leave the impression that you want.

Does one have to use their real name? Will a company name hinder results?
