- Céline refuses to accept the Award for Best English speaking artist. Céline takes the microphone and says she can't accept this award for he simple reason she is not an English speaking artist, she is a French speaking artist who did record an English album. After Céline did so she shocked the Quebecois community, since then this award has been renamed Quebec artist achieving the most success in a language other than French

Her honesty just makes me love her more!
she said that she was NOT a Anglophone artist but a Quebec artist.
Céline simply the best forever! Céline genius! Very beautiful! Very honest! Very human!
C evident omg comment ca personne s'en rendait compte back then?!
haha, yes, it's french from quebec and because of our accent we say it like that.
A maman 🤭🥱
is that the difference between quebecoise french and metropolitan french??
Quebecers did her dirty
Aussi forte que De Gaulle en 1967 !
Yes it means Pas, she says she's not an english artist:) but a quebecoise
this could've been a stunt, yes, but it also could've been real. this was October 1990 - _Unison_ was only released in the UK and US a month before. she was very much a Quebecoise artist at the time, and should've been insulted.
also, she looks amazing here. wish she'd carried this fresh, young style throughout the decade.
Unison et sorti le 2 avril 1990
I believe this occurred on Oct 21, 1990 not the 14th as the video title states.
well! watch the video, and you will see.
There are many videos on youtube where you can hear her speak French or better to say Quebecoise, cause she never lost her accent!
As many people from Quebec, she tends to temporarily almost lose it when she stays a bit in another French speaking country.
and it will remain so.
Yes it is!
Wow. Rene is not happy...
I think that's his nervous look.
He is very happy. All this spech is planed ! Céline is a bad actrice.
k.
So she's a bigot....big deal.
idiot
it is indeed ..."que j'étais pas une artiste anglophone..." That's the Quebecoise accent she STILL has! only she learned how to speak proper French..
proper french?
@@annefilion-donato6573 white french surement
This was the beginning of the end for us English Quebecers hating her guts, there is no English or French there is only Quebecois, and you are proud of it or not. Take the award, say thank-you and be humble. This is not politics, this is entertainment, keep your political views to yourself. Then she goes on to make a bazillion of dollars singing in English.....Disney? Where were her morals then? She can thank her "grand pere" as I call her husband Rene. The smartest thing she ever did was marry Rene, a man old enough to be her grandfather, and his advice to her? was shut your mouth, politics aren't going to get you money, smile and say thank-you. Take the awards, the praise, and surtout the money.
you’re pathetic. she had every right to refuse this award as she didn’t see herself as an anglophone artist at the time. it had nothing to do with politics. she’s a francophone artist who had just released her first album in a language that was still foreign to her at the time. her english is still not perfect to this day, more than 35 years after her first lessons.
