Barnaby Joyce - let's get real here for a moment. It is not the social media sites, nor the internet that causes bullying. Bullying starts at home. It starts with parents and families teaching their children kindness, compassion and love. Let's face it, the reason families are being torn apart is because of governments creating separation in families as many parents have to work long hours, multiple jobs just to survive - where does that leave time to teach our children properly. Our schools certainly don't pick up the slack either. We don't have an intenet or social media problem - we have a society problem!!

This has nothing to do with protecting the children, it's all about digital ID. Is it only me that wonders how a 14 year old girl can have an abortion without parental consent but is banned from social media.
So, in a cost of living crisis, with threats of blackouts in summer due to a lack of energy production, and war and political instabilities all over the planet, they're focussing their efforts on combating online bullying by threatening huge fines to social media platforms that won't play ball, deferring responsibility rather than actually taking the time and effort to engage with children in the classroom, and at home, so they can be better prepared mentally and emotionally for life in the real world. It's not easy out here, and once those kids grow up nobody is going to care about them at all, but these politicians wouldn't know that, they don't have any financial worries whatsoever. They're already set for life. In fact, at what point do we introduce mandatory retirement on them? They seem to just keep getting older, and staying in these parliament jobs. There's an election coming, and I think we already voted this government out with the Voice referendum. I do not appreciate using our country as test subjects for an experiment in policing the internet, using half-baked legislation to fill in at a later date. That's like letting students submit an essay or exam with a napkin that has the letters I.O.U. scribbled on it. If it isn't going to come into effect until the end of next year, then what's the rush in passing it now, a scant few months before a major election? If they hadn't wasted all this time on that doomed Voice referendum, because we needed to have a referendum on any changes to the constitution, then they might have actually done something productive. Now imagine if they hadn't done the referendum, and had passed both the Voice AND changed the constitution without consulting the people. Hell, just go ahead and actually re-legalise slavery while their at it, because why not? We're already made to work like slaves, and underpaid for it. Why bother with the pretence anymore if they're just going to guillotine through 30+ pieces of legislation without debate or scrutiny by the elected representatives, because Albo knows he's lost Labour the next election. Just declare himself emperor or something, yeah? What a joke. Can we get a list of all of those responsible for rushing through those 30+ pieces of legislation? No, it won't save this government. Most Australians are very unhappy with the direction of our country. People dont trust this government anymore. However, bullying is unacceptable and can have tragic consequences, devastating if we lose a young life.
Back in my day (I know, I know), we used to get bullied at school, and at after school sports, and at home, and hanging out with friends. Because we didn't have the internet. So by "removing that evil", he effectively removes it from one of many, many things. Therefore making no meaningful change at all. This attitude that we have to block out ears and say "lalalalala" every time something bad happens is just ridiculous.
Persons under 16 should not have a device that can accesses the internet, they should only have a talk and Text device, like those old 90's phones...!!
It’s now sounding like the LNP cannot win the next election now so the biggest winner from all this is Labor even if their primary vote declines they will get over the line with preferences
There is an easy fix for this. Upon opening the app, put a prompt saying, "Are you over 15 years old ?" :D That'll fix the problem. I know sites like omegle are 18+ , yet you see (apart from numerous "private parts") people who are obviously under 18 on there.
We have inflation cost of living , housing problem Teenagers shouldn’t have social media …. Like that’s the issue we need tackled Parents can sort this
Another thing I just thought of is what about video games? Mostly all video games are essential social media because you can communicate with strangers on the internet
They will simply use video game chats where there are a huge amount of creeps trying to talk to them about sex, drugs, alcohol, profanity spewed, etc. You parents better start checking every area they can get around the ban because the little buggers will desperately find a way.
On one hand where being forced into a new digital age and at the same time removing rights for certain age groups not to able to partake in the modern digital world that they in a way created
Just make it a social norm and not an enforcement. Cheap and easy... Do some education campaigns they did with smoking, ect and soon enough people will look at it like a 9 year old smoking. Some parents will allow it, but most won't. The social norm just needs changing.
Social media is influenced by the influencers who are IT experts. They can send others anything what they want to. And they can use Apps to extract other's computing works. But they don't allow their positions. They can influence other people on purpose. They can be an unethical and injustices. Normally they are from public their purposes are for the personal purposes aiming bullying other people by using their skill sets and networks. And their intentions could be unhealthy in many cases.
Maybe Labor should ban retinol being administered to all children. The levels are at huge levels. But no Labor, as usual get and idea and rush it thru.

How are they going to research what gender they are? 😮
Very concerning however, doesn't the government already have a digital id of individuals...? Licences, Medicare, social security etc etc...?
It’s now sounding like the LNP cannot win the next election now so the biggest winner from all this is Labor even if their primary vote declines they will get over the line with preferences
There is an easy fix for this.
Upon opening the app, put a prompt saying, "Are you over 15 years old ?" :D
That'll fix the problem.
I know sites like omegle are 18+ , yet you see (apart from numerous "private parts") people who are obviously under 18 on there.
The people demand this bill be reversed immediately. Do not vote ever again for any of these senators who voted this.
Er, it was a bipartisan decision, Frank. Exactly which people are you referring to, the 5% One Nation voters?

This legistration wont achieve the results desired. Parents will just make accounts for kids to use.
So we will give all our information to Big Brother. What can go wrong!
Barnaby 'Stop talking BS' it's all to do with a digital ID. Nothing Else!
We have inflation cost of living , housing problem
Teenagers shouldn’t have social media …. Like that’s the issue we need tackled

Australia. The new North Korea.
They will simply use video game chats where there are a huge amount of creeps trying to talk to them about sex, drugs, alcohol, profanity spewed, etc. You parents better start checking every area they can get around the ban because the little buggers will desperately find a way.

Just make it a social norm and not an enforcement.
Cheap and easy... Do some education campaigns they did with smoking, ect and soon enough people will look at it like a 9 year old smoking.
Some parents will allow it, but most won't. The social norm just needs changing.
Was that a woke Barnaby? Very emotional. But the conservatives are supposed to stand for small govt & keeping govt out of peoples lives?
Social media is influenced by the influencers who are IT experts.
They can send others anything what they want to. And they can use Apps to extract other's computing works.
But they don't allow their positions.
They can influence other people on purpose. They can be an unethical and injustices.
Normally they are from public their purposes are for the personal purposes aiming bullying other people by using their skill sets and networks.
And their intentions could be unhealthy in many cases.
Unconstitutional
Maybe Labor should ban retinol being administered to all children. The levels are at huge levels. But no Labor, as usual get and idea and rush it thru.
Govt ain't worried about kids being drugged to the eyeballs on big farmer. Because they get big dollars from them
